New to car detailing

Hello everyone! I am new to the forums and new to car detailing. I have always taken good care of the cars I own, but now I am interested in doing the work myself. I am (like most of you I'm sure) a perfectionist when it comes to the way my car looks. I've been reading the forums now for about a month and increased my knowledge about car detailing. I would like to start on my car and see how well of a job I can do. If this is something I am good at, maybe I can do a few cars on the side to make a little extra money. I have always purchased OTC products in the past but I am willing to invest in quality products now. I came across this chart located here:

Auto Detailing Facts, auto detailing Tips, How to detailing Guides, how to polish, how to wax, DIY detailing, do it yourself guides

What I have done is put each category into a Microsoft Word document. I know it ultimately depends on the person, but I am looking for a quality product to fit into each category. Wash, Detailing Clay, Compound, Swirl Remover, Finishing Polish, Glaze, Paint Sealant or Wax, Spray Wax and Quick Detailer. I then plan on putting together one big order and ordering all of the products.

Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated. Also if you have any brushes, towels, or accessories that you found to be extremely helpful please share. Thanks for the help in advance.

Welcome to AF! I started out similar to you. I always washed my car and kept it clean. I became friends with a detailer that detailed my car for a car show and he would comment on how clean my car was and how I even cleaned areas that most never notice. I started reading and buying products and tools to and I love it still after all these years.

You will always get different opinions on what product is better, it's all personal opinion. If you really want suggestions I'm more than happy to help. Look at reviews and really AG and Autopia CC offer great products.

Welcome.

As for lists, I have accumulated products from various places taking advantages of sales so if you are shopping you may not choose the same products because you want to get them from the fewest places to save shipping.

A few favorites.

Car Wash - Optimum

All Purpose Cleaner - Optimum Power Clean

General Microfiber - Pakshak

Tire and wheel brushes - Mothers

Tire wheels (inside barrel) - Wheel woolies

Drying Towel - Mothers Foam core Waffle Weave

Glass Cleaner - Sprayway.

In your categories, I use Meg's Gold Class car wash shampoo & the blue MF towels with rolled edges from Autogeek, along with some cotton towels. I'm still experimenting with all the other categories so my products are all over the map. Welcome to the forum.
