New Sonus Products

Hey,

It's been a long time since I've posted in this forum, and it's spring now, so I'm back into detailing. Anyways, I have a question for all of you...

My car recently got keyed, and it's been needing a workover for a while anyways, so I was going to buy some new products from Autopia.

I noticed that instead of some of the brands that used to be here a while back, there is a lot of Sonus stuff.

I've never used Sonus before, and I was wondering, how does it stand up to other products? I don't need anything detailed, just general opinions of other users. Is it better than some of the old brands on Autopia? In general, do you like the job it does? Do you like all Sonus products in general, or does Sonus do better in certain areas than others?

Thanks for the advice!

This spring my car's gonna get a complete workover.

the only sonus product ive used so far is the carnuba spritz, and it is hands down THE BEST qd ive ever used.

im going to try their fine clay soon too.

I'm not too fond of the SFX line of polishes, but the SFX pads are great.

What is it about them that you don't like? Is it more of a personal preference? Like when someone prefers paste over liquid? Or are you not happy with the end result of the product?

Thanks

Well bettercarcare.com had a special where you could get any 2 of the 3 SFX polishes for the price of one, so I got SFX-1 "Restore" and SFX-2 "Enhance".

The SFX-1 has noticable grittiness and claims to remove 1200 grit sanding marks, but it couldn't even tackle the swirls on my paint after repeated attempts using various speeds, pads, pressures, and whatnot. It has decent work-in time, but I have found that it just dusts too much for my personal preference.

The SFX-2 is mediocre.. I guess it only serves to hold a place between SFX-1 and SFX-3.

Only products I've used from Sonus are their Clay (both the gray and green) and lube. Very impressive. These are now the *only* clays and lube I use. Recently tried some Griot's and Mother's again (had 'em around, used on a loaner car) and *man* were they lousy after being used to the Sonus. Poor cleaning, lots of residue, little pieces stuck in trim....just awful compared to the Sonus. Sure never expected such a dramatic difference what with all the "all clays are the same" conventional-wisdom going around.

truzoom,

You mention dust . . . that makes me think perhaps you have the original version of the polishes (16 oz. bottles)?

If so, v2.0 of the Sonus polishes is a completely different formula, and soooooo much easier to work with. No dust, workable for a very long time, and residue buffs off easily. The new SFX-1, however, is still a relatively mild polish, IMO, suited for removing light swirls. Serious correction is probably going to require something stronger . . . I've mentioned to DavidB a couple of times that I want an "SFX-0" compound that has more cut.

I second that! :2thumbs:

I've got micro-marring on my grand prix. The paint is in great condition, but when I pull the car out in direct sun, you can see spider webbing, and it's really irritating. I've never had or done a cutting polish on my car, and I'm wondering... do you think the Sonus SFX-2 and SFX-3 will do the job? I don't think (unless this polish is really weak that I'll need the SFX-3 polish. I really need to post some pictures, maybe I'll get around to that soon.

Thanks!

The Sonus Sprtizes are very nice. I keep a bottle of both Carnauba and Acrylic spritz.

I wasn't impressed with glass cleaner and the SFX swirl remover and PC pad I bought didn't do much. I think maybe I wasn't using the right counterweight so I'll give it another shot. The prouct didn't buff out and it has a consistency of thin rubber glue that the PC wouldn't clear away. I had to manually buff it out after allot of work. I probably was using it all wrong...

I'm going to get a new pad and backing plate for my orbital buffer, anyone have recommendations? I was originally looking at Sonus pads but what else is there?

thanks

I've used the Sonus Total Eclipse in my WRX Interior and it worked out very well. Highly recommand it. It's UV40 rated and gives the interior a very nice shine.

Also used it on my leather wrapped steering wheel.
