New Prestone Product, any users ?

Rhino, I say go for it, what can it hurt. (Cept 1/2 a days worth of work, but look at the knowlege you'll gain, and the opportunity youll have to share with the rest of us !)However, I wouldnt top with TW, being as it has cleaners in it, theres obviously a compatability issue here. S100 appears to be the latest rave here on Autopia, personally i find nothing too spectacular about it. Although it is very ez to use, doesnt stain trim, it gets my thumbs up.

I would follow the directions as stated on the label. Polymers/blends need additional set time. Being as your car is new, i would suggest a light polish prior to sealing and/or topping. Maybe the Mothers Pre wax cleaner....then Prestone, the S100, or a carnauba of your choice....

Consider claying after/during washing......

Well, I finally got the time and did it.



All I did was wash it at one of those self serve places where you drop in the quarters and get warm soapy water out of a wand with a trigger (what is in the prewash at those places?), then I drove it home, dryed it with a synthetic chamois type thing and used Meguiar's QD on the little bit of dirt I picked up driving home.



Then I did the Prestone Wax and wiped and buffed it off with TurtleWax microfiber towels.

I'll let you know how long it lasts. How do you tell how long your wax has lasted besides noting when it stops beading?

One way to tell is noting the ease of applying the QD, and taking it off.....If you start to labor at all, your protection is diminishing....

A casual observer has a hard time telling, but you the owner will know...does the water look like its "sticking?"...Its not sheating off like it used too. Beads are nice and round....several ways to tell...you leanr soon enough...Those are just some of my ways.....

It went on really nicely. The bottle has this funky ("no drip") feature (basically a one way valve, I think). I squirted it on an applicator pad and rubbed it on in circles. It's easy to rub on and easy to control. It smells great, just like coconut!

How long did you wait until removal ?

The instructions say to wait until it hazes. I did it a section at a time (as recommended on these boards). When the section was large enough that it took some time (roof, hood) I started removing pretty much as soon as I finished it. On sections that are smaller, I would apply to the next section before going back to remove (e.g., I waxed the rear door before removing the rear quarter panel, the front door before removing from the rear door, etc.)



The last car that I did this with, I applied to the whole thing and then removed all at once, each in one pass. That was noticeably harder than this time (but I also think that I used too much product the first time).

Thanks for the interest. I'm curious to hear what others think, especially people with more experience. I am new to this and my previous experience was quite a while ago and is only with Turtle Wax Super Hard Shell.



By the way, I'm not infatuated with TW products, that's just about all they had at the local auto parts stores.

Hehe. I like my Wurlitzer Piano. Got it used. Then again, I live 5 minutes from an old Wurlitzer Company building. It sounds great, don't know how old it is, I think 1950's ish. $500, put venier over it so it looks new, haw.
