New Pontiac Solstice

Why don't you look at the Honda S2000? It is a better car than those 2 will ever be!

Better? How? Yes, it's faster, but I find my 1999 Miata to be supremely tossable, much more so than the S2K I drove.

Get ready for 2007 model year, they have dual exhausts and a 260 hp turbo coming. As far as the look, to each his own. I think its one hot car just the way it is. with the new turbo coming, it will also be FAST!!!!! Gary

And just how long did you drive that S2K? Did you own it?

Good question; now in all fairness, don't you think you should ask the same of Quickstrike regarding his driving and ownership of the Miata and Solstice? Or do fellow Honda lovers get a pass? :nixweiss. Seems only fair to me.

Because the answer is obvious. If he had a Solstice he'd be singing the praises of it. Because he doesn't I don't put much value on his response.

A quick drive in a car doesn't validate an opinion. If he owned it and got used to it then that's a different story. That's why I asked the question.

So is it safe to assume that you own a Miata and that's how you know the S2K is "better"? Am I only allowed to have an opinion on a vehicle if I own it? If you don't own a Miata, then am I to put little value in your response as well? I thought that's what test drives were for. Besides, "better" is a fairly sweeping generalization, isn't it?

And even if you have owned both and prefer the S2K, it is still just your opinion. That's why so many different cars exist in a given segment - people have choices you know?

Lighten up.

Re-read my post as I didn't say I didn't value *your* opinion. My question was simply how long did you drive it? I was trying to figure out if you came to your conclusion from a test drive, a rip at the track or from a few months of driving. Nothing more and nothing less.

OK then, fair enough. A friend of mine bought one six months after I bought my Miata, and I like my car better. I've driven his on a few occassions, and been a passenger on many more. The S2K and Miata are very different animals and I don't see them as direct competitors anyway. First off, the S2K is priced almost 50% higher than the Miata, which automatically puts then in at least slightly different categories.

But the real impetus for my Miata purchase was an opportunity I had to drive a 1967 MGB for an hour or so. I was totally and completely hooked - I had to have a rear drive, manual gearbox, two seat convertible. But I did not want the upkeep and expense of owning a classic British roadster like the MGB, Lotus Elan, or Austin Healey. And, since this was just going to be a weekend toy I wanted the cost of entry to be painless as well. A quick look at what was available - BMW Z3/Z4, Honda S2K, Toyota MR2 Spyder, Mazda Miata - made it quite clear that only one car fit all my criteria and would still feel like a classic British roadster. The Miata. Hands down, nothing else even comes close to this feel, this look, this lightness, this driving experience. This is not a condemnation of any of the above cars, they are all fine vehicles in their own right, they simply did not fit my criteria for my weekend toy.

the saturn sky is definitely a nice looking car...especially given some of Saturn's previous cars.

As for the war of the s2k w/ a miata, both have a sort of "cult" following and I personally don't have an opinion, but i did have a M-coupe once that was REALLY FUN to drive.

Well, I'm not following that logic; since by your response you obviously assumed that M-I-O never in fact owned an S2000 (correctly); it's just as obvious to assume that the other person has never owned (or driven?) a Miata.

 Well Percy, I didn't assume, I asked the question. And since there aren't too many Solstice owners out there I think that he would proudly post pictures if he were one of the first owners. I already said that I was asking the question to learn if he owned one. I'm not the Honda owner that thinks that noone else is capable of making a good car. I know that ALL makes have their issues. My statement about the lack of value has to do with the post saying that the S2K was the obvious better car. It has no value to *me* as It's not logical for a guy to buy a new "hot" car and then say that something else is better.

Percy, my response to no value in the response was to this post. Sounds like some obvious bias to the Honda. Would you get the impression that he has a Solstice?

I didn't assume that MIO didn't own the S2K, I asked. He said "drove" and *I* wanted to know for how long. I already stated what *I* was trying to learn. Please stop dissecting my statements now. :wavey

:nervous: Gee, I didn't realize I was doing that. I'll stop anyway, though. Cheers!
