New Paint!!

1974 Volkswagen Beetle (has parts off of other year models as well)

This belongs to a friend of mine and he was wanting it repainted.

These are the pictures I I took after the first blocking. Notice how many times this car has been painted and how incorrectly the body work was done. It appears that the car was sanded down with a da every time it was painted. You can see how wavy the paintjob would have been if I didn't take the time to correctly sand it down.

Body work consisted of:

Block sanding with 180 grit on 16" durablock.

Find all dents and dings and repair

3 coats of Evercoat Uro Fill primer

Block again with 180 grit of durablock

2 more coats of primer

Wet sand with 400 grit

3 coats of Nason paint

3 coats of Dupont Chroma Clear (I used a whole gallon on this car)

Here are the after pics. I wasn't able to get it into the sun today to really get pictures of the metallic but it is really nice. This is probably one of my favorite colors.

Nice job, looks good and straight... I like the color, I'm not a fan of beetles, but you should post a nice sun shot after it's all back together.

My friend just painted his 86 Chevy shortbed that he was restoring a color very similar to that one. I think his is a little bit darker though. It is a really nice color though. Great Job.

Ugh, that brings back some horrible memories. Are you sure that's a '74? It's hard to tell without the glass but that looks like a flat windshield which I thought was gone by '74, plus the seats look of a little older vintage, but I'm no expert except to say good riddance when they stopped making that thing...

if you were trying to restore it back to the super beetle sport bug color blue, it didnt work :o

The reason why i know that is because we have probably the best restored one in my back yard. Its perfect the bllue is a little lighter... with a flake.... its beautiful.. anyways, good job! I like the paint.

Great looking paint! I really like that color. Post some outside shots when it's all back together.

super beetles had the curved glass, regardless of year. regular beetles had the flat windshield.

We were not looking to restore it to factory paint. This is actually a color off of a kia. I told the guy to pick out a color that he liked and this was it. It really looks awesome in the sun. I've gotta get it cleaned up before I take some outside shots. It gets rather dusty sitting in the shop. Also, I don't know if any of you are into country music but if you have seen the Tracy Lawrence video "Find out who your friends are" and notice the truck that he is jumping on and broke down...it is in the background shot of this car. Doing a total makeover on it. I took a few shots of it last night before I left the shop. It will be used in another country music video soon. Also, that checker cab is in awful shape LOL It had vinyl on the top and it is rusted out really bad. Other than that it is good though. Here are the picturures of that truck I was talking about that my friends have been working on:

That's incorrect actually. '71-'72 Super Beetles had a flat windshield as well. :nono
