New Paint Needs Polishing

Couple weeks ago I posted about a dent in my door. Just got the car back from the body shop, I was told by several pros that PDR would not turn out perfect, so I went with the body shop. While they did a great job on the color matching and the dent removal, I have holograms in my paint for the first time, AND I HATE IT. Rather than give them an opportunity to do worse, I'm going at it myself. Some opinions needed please: I have a porter cable, with LC pads, and XMT 2, SSR2, poli seal, Menzerna IP and FP 2, Optimum polish,Pinnacle advanced finishing polish, and Wolfgang Swirl remover. Where this clear coat is brand new, should I go with a very mild polish like fp2, or is it safe to use something more agressive. Same question with the pads. Also I was discussing with the person who repaired the door and painted it about waxing and he told me no need to wait at all, as the paint was baked and it is the water based paint. Is this correct? Your opinions are valued.

you should be ok with polishing it as long as you dont seal or wax it. From what ive read it takes about a month for the paint to degas. I would recommend going with Menzerna FP2 and a white pad on your pc. Start with the least aggressive and that should take care of that.

Today I called the body shop that repaired/repainted the front right quarter panel and right passenger door on my Sequoia to ask how long I should wait to wax it. They said pretty much what Carbon Blue said: it's ok to polish it now, but they said to wait *three months* to wax it. Maybe just because it's still kinda chilly out so the paint needs a bit longer to cure/degass.:nixweiss
