New Optimum DA

Reminds me of the communist built BMW made in East Germany after WWII - the EMW. You see how well that went.

Would it not be a surprise if the Rupes components were made in China and then assembled in Italy??

We have 2 Rupes in our shop and use them daily, great tools. These Optimum polishers are also great and built as Dr. G asked. When you handle one you'll notice some nice changes in how the polisher feels and also how it rests. It's more stable tool now when you set it down. I hate that the Rupes always tilts over ....it has an odd balance to it. Yet the machine works great as will the Optimum polisher. It's all about personal choices.

IMHO the price point needs to be more than 40-50 different to sway people.

I think you're right on at 40-50% less. If the MaxShine unit sells at $250 and $15 for a 5" BP for a total price of $265 that's about 40% less than a Rupes 21 ($400) with a 5" BP ($40) for a total of $440. If the quality of the MaxShine (with it's 880w motor) is like the GG6 I wouldn't have any second thoughts at purchasing one especially if Griots starts to sell them with a lifetime warranty.

there are at least 3 chineese company importng these units,, all under a diff name.
I am just waitingt til HF has one and see how bad ppl bash it. MY HF DA is still kicking butt!

Keep in mind that the Rupes machine is very well balanced and is designed to be used with their liquids and pads. In fact their polishes are not meant to weigh down the pad throwing the balance off. Marco (their engineer) is fanatical about keeping the machine balanced to prolong its lifespan. Not to say that their machines are prone to failure if you use a non-Rupes product, but just how well behaved it works with their system.

Agree. I think the system is quite nice. The pads don't get gunked up and they are well built. The only negative is the more aggressive Rupes' polishes dust. This is the type of advantage you get when the manufacturer designs the whole system from the ground up and manufactures the tool in house.

Yes I'm sure some parts are made in China. Some parts of almost EVERYTHING are made in China. If they made everything in house from scratch the machine would likely be like $600+ and nobody would buy it. There is a big difference in my mind about some parts being made in China via unique intellectual property, and the whole unit being reverse engineered + sourced / assembled in China - clearly copying someone else's design.

I wouldn't buy this machine on principle. Do your own R&D, don't copy Rupes' product. Damn thing looks almost identical. I'd gladly spend the extra money and buy the Rupes.

I am totally happy with my flex da, PC (set up with an interior brush), and GG6 and GG3. Really wanting a Rupes just to see the difference but unless I win one or they ask me to test one and review it (hey Todd you listening? Lol) I really don't need one.

Everyone bashing this machine needs to realize that pros will invest ins tool they run hard daily, but weekend warriors who polish out their car 1x a year can get buy with a lesser quality tool.

Well that's an odd statement as just about everything is a copy or clone of something else. Who made the first car and how many car makers do we now have? Same with PC's, mobile devices, Pepsi or Coke? Snap-On or Matco? Colgate or Crest?

Many people will pay $8 for a cup of Starbucks just so they can say they spend that much on coffee, and of course be seen with that cool Starbucks logo! Others go to local doughnut shop and spend $1 for coffee......smart ones put it in a Starbucks to-go mug!! B)

Point is what if someone has done their "own R&D" and made a better mouse trap based on another mouse trap? That's capitalism...Apple brings about some cool high priced gadgets. Samsung says, "We can build something just as good for less money!" In the end we live, for now at least, in a free market where companies offer their goods and we, the public buyers, choose what we want based on our own personal choices. Yet to base a "no buy" on the principle of "it looks almost identical" is contradictory given just about all things "look identical". What's your keyboard look like that you're typing on? Probably looks almost identical to mine and thousands of others out there yet you have one and most likely based your buy on personal choice after seeing and trying one out at the store or read some reviews on it.

As I noted already we have 2 Rupes in our shop. I have recommended them to many people. We also have a few Flex machines. We are getting 2 Optimum polishers also and will try them and judge their performance against those others. Our polishers get a lot of use and abuse. So if they fail then we know not to purchase anymore. Then again if they perform well we will no longer buy Rupes or Flex because bottom line...we save money!

Dropping the other shoe ...

My brother has a childhood friend that retired to Las Vegas. Best business/salesman I've ever known. Likes to gamble and is able to find his way into just about any of the Vegas conventions. I never did make it to SEMA. Make a long story short, been taking to my Bro about Kevin Brown, the Rupes and the Chopes and how I was saving to purchase from Kevin. Even tho I had mixed emotions 'cause I also wanted to give my business to my Optimum rep.

Next thing I know Sid (my brothers friend) meets this fellow who I never heard of and a few days later UPS drops off this:

EVO 21 Random Orbit Dual Action Polisher

Haven't even used it yet, almost made Sid take it back since I do believe Rupes is a "Polished" machine and I like to do business with those I'm familiar with. Have to say tho, I did e-mail Rich Light about returning it and he didn't blink an eye; said it was 900W. So I thought to myself, well if he was willing to take it back chances are if I have a problem he'll work with me. So...

I have a black 3 Series coming in tomorrow for full paint correction. I'll post back my review. Wondering tho if this could use the washer mod?

BTW- I was told with two 5" backing plates and the included 6" cost was $284.62 - shipping included

Great post.

I have two Rupes 21's and after playing around with the Zen Tool DA at Optimum when I went through Memphis the Monday after Thanksgiving, it definitely feels as solid as the Rupes does. So I'll probably get the Zen Tool through Optimum giving me a 3rd 21 mm throw DA since this one has a motor nearly twice as powerful. The speed control on my oldest Rupes isn't working right anyway (after 18 months of hard use) so having a 3rd 21 mm DA will give me a back-up so I can send that Rupes in for repair. Can't have to many polishers.

I was gonna say Scott, I'd take one of those Rupes' off your hands. The machine would probably be more talented than more me just because it was yours. I could put it on the car and it would run itself...:-)

Well the 3 Series rescheduled for tomorrow so I thought I'd post some pics of the EVO21

Not as polished as the Rupes
