New MF towel - initial thoughts

COME AT ME BRO
DSC03070.jpg

I picked up a two pack of these at Wal-Mart last night and thought I'd share.

Product: Turtle Wax Ice Mega Microfiber

Price: $5.97 for a two-pack. Three bucks each. I don't really know if I'd call that a value or a bargain or not, but let me continue...

Availability: I picked them up at WM. I imagine you might could get them anywhere Ice products are sold. These get major points for being available locally and being darn good towels. More on that later. It's nice to a towel available at the store that isn't crap.

Packaging: Bundled in an open cardboard topper. The MF towels were out for everyone to touch and collect dust. I would much rather them come in some sort of plastic so they don't pick up crap while in transport or sitting on the shelves. I did the old "pick out the plushest feeling best looking" ones like I do with sheepskin mitts. I immediately washed them (before using them on the vehicle).

Thoughts: I really, really like this towel. It's an 80/20 blend, and is super plush on both sides. It was a little linty before the wash, but after washing and using the towel, it doesn't lint at all. {I measured this by dragging the dry towel across a dry window and inspected for linting hairs}. I prefer these types of towels for QDing (I'm a QD junkie), and this towel impressed me very much. Not so much for price, but the fact that I picked it up at WM. I used it with Poorboy's QD+ (another absolutely amazing product that does not get enough mention) on some areas of my truck and the 4Runner, and does a great job of spreading the product and a final wipe (after a flip of the towel).

If you're in a mood for trying something new, or are just a OTC detail junkie like me and you gotta buy a lot of the new stuff you see, I think these towels are a hit. I'll be using these for QD duty. :bigups

I will be lookin for these on my next trip to WallyWorld:bigups

Thanks for the tip:rockon

:inspector:They look just like the material my lil doggy's bed is made of

:bow
I know exactly what I'm going to see, even before I see it in person. Nice looking towels and a nicely formatted description. :)

I got a chance to use these again for some QD'ing work. I'll say that I am still amazed that I picked these up locally.

I'll be picking up another pack or two on my next WM trip. :bigups

Wouldn't you know it. These towels haven't made it to our side of town yet (we've got 1 "super" and one "mega"). I'll be looking at stores in the surrounding areas. You definitely have my curiosity piqued.

Maybe I should go post that review over in the Zaino 15 page microfiber thread. :D Yes, I noticed you were one of maybe three rational posters in the entire cluster of a discussion. While I have like the Zaino stuff I have tried, both sides of the argument really turn me off from reading any of the threads for informative purposes. I usually read them for the sheer enjoyment of watching both sides crybaby about the other.

In any case, while I haven't seen a Zaino towel, I wouldn't hesitate to put this el-cheapo TW towel up against some of the others I've tried for competition so far. Granted, my opinion can change.

Oh, and if you happen not to come across one and really would like to try it out, let me know. I am sure we could work something out. You're also welcome to try the 105/205 if you ever get curious as well.

I posted about these towels a couple weeks ago but I didn't write the review that JP did.

I have not seen them at my local WM yet I got mine at Meijer's.

IMO at 3 bucks a piece they are an excellent buy.
I have paid 6 bucks for towels that were not as good and paid about a dollar per towel shipping on top of that.

Jared, this really is a well thought out review.:bigups

I didn't read over it intirely the 1st time around:redface:

However I was @ 2 Different WW's this morning and had No Luck Finding the "Turtle Wax Ice Mega Microfiber" Here either:(
I will Defanetaly be on tha look out, maybe they puttum all down your way as a test Store :dunno:

This means you have to buy them out:D
So everyone else will be able to purchase at there local WW:rockon

Jared, I have to ask. :)
You purchased a 2 pack and are going back for 2 or 3 more 2 packs.
You are adding 6 MF towels to your stock of how many that you presently own.
I would venture a guess that you already have over 50 and possibly more than 100. :D
How many do you need?
No matter how hard you try, you are not going to be able to buy all they make.

JP, you know in that "mess" (I like your description - "cluster of a discussion") my post(s) are only rational if you agree. ;)

I would find it hard to imagine that someone could prove that the Zaino towel performs 3x better than this towel. I wouldn't be surprised that someone would attempt to do so.

I'm a MF towel junkie, I won't be surprised to find the Zaino towel in one of my towel boxes.

Thanks! If it comes to that, I'm sure we can figure something out. :bigups

My guess is well over 100. :D

How many stars are in the sky?

Blasphemy!
CharlesW, would it surprise you for me to tell you that I have a nice sized box (which has run out of space) of towels brand new towels, some of which are still in their original packaging  I keep the new samples so I can go back and reference the towels as they were new in comparison to the used towel. (that's my logic for doing it anyway) My lovely Wife says that I'm fooling no one by keeping my towels sorted and separated by usage instead of one spot. I have drawers and boxes of towels so that I can go quickly (or somewhat so) to the towels I need.

Buying new towels is like an addiction, or a search for the Holy Grail of towels.

I"m with you on the stocking towels I have more than I can ever use but I bought the TW Ice towels to try.

Charles says they will make them faster than you can buy them but with my help we can keep them working over time. :D

I couldn't stop looking at that nice finish on the paint.

Nice review, love being able to get good products locally.:rockon

I did see these today and had a question.
Are they made up of several pieces of materiel sewed together? It kind of looked like that was the case, but I didn't take them out of the sleeve or even look at them closely.
If that is the case, why would they be made that way?

I won't let that little remark discourage me! :rofl
Discourage you? That can't happen, can it?

Eh, don't let Charles fool you. I think he fears we might just buy up his share too. :D But yes, between you, JP, and me we can stimulate a small portion of the economy. :)

I don't know if the towel is constructed as you describe, but IIRC the "Monster Fluffy" towel was 2 plush MF towels sewn together. The towel got rave reviews.

That, I cannot answer.

They do have a "crosshair" pattern on them, dividing the towel into four, distinct quarters. FWIW, it does not affect the performance of the towel that I have noticed.

I picked these towels up from Walmart as well. The color caught my eye lol, then I felt them was very impressed, came home gave them the CD test. Used them for the first time today applying FK 425 to my fiances car

I have some of those super thick towels from CG and they are made from two really thick towels sewed together but like the ice towel it don't cause a problem.

The towels from CG are by far the thickest I have seen and it makes them heavy and kinda hard to handle but they sure are absorbent.

Try the Ice towel it is excellent towel at a good price.
