Hello everyone! I've spent the past few days reading over material on the site, and have to say there's an impressive amount of valuable information here. I'm a novice compared to a lot of you, but at the same time I really enjoy detailing autos. Call me weird, but it's been an interest of mine for many many years. My wife claims that it has infected me with a severe case of OCD! I'm the guy in the neighborhood that obsesses over a clean car (and there are VERY few of us......)

I have a black SUV. Like many of you, I'm chasing after perfect paint. I prefer to use products from Menzerna, Pinnacle, Klasse, Blackfire,303, but I'm open to try other products suggessted by the group. Which leads me to a few questions for the group.

What pads do you guys like to use? (for the PC & DW849)

What's your favorate products for a black finish? (compound, polish, glaze, sealer/wax)

How did you learn to detail, operate a rotary buffer, etc..?

Anyway, I'm glad I found this place and hope that I'll be able to contribute.

Welcome to DC mgm2003! There are a lot of great people on this site with knowledge to share. Hope you enjoy your stay.

My 2 cents regarding your questions -

I like a few different types of machine pads. For the PC, I have 2 favorites: Lake Country 7.5" Curved Edge and Edge 6.5" Durafoam DA. I like the shape of the LC pads, and the texture variety and foam durability of the Edge pads. I have not yet attempted to use a rotary, but it is one of my goals for the near future. When I purchase my rotary, I intend to start off with the Edge2000 pad system.

My favorite products for a black finish are:
Poorboy's SSR2.5 moderate swirl remover
Poorboy's SSR1 light swirl remover
Clearkote Vanilla Moose glaze
Poorboy's EX with Carnauba sealant
Pinnacle Souveran paste wax

I started detailing in the early 1980s when I got my first car. In the beginning it was just simple washing and waxing with consumer level store bought products. After a few years, I graduated to multi-step detailing with the Meguiar's Mirror Glaze line. Although I only detail as a hobby, I've always tried to keep up to date with the latest products and technologies. I couldn't even begin to guess how many products I've tried over the years, as I always seem to have some type of product comparison test going on with my vehicles.

Obsessing over a clean car is perfectly acceptable here. You are among friends. :)

Hey Welcome to the DC .:welcome Your among good company here :bigups

If your thinking about getting a rotory , pick up some panels at a junk yard or from the scarp pile at a body shop so you can practice on. You sure don't want to start out learning on that new truck ;)

TS (trade sceret) is a favorite topper on black or any dark color .
Edge pads are all I use.

I've got a black vehicle too and have been experimenting on what makes it look the best. AWD330 seems to have it right. Check out Trade Secrets carnuba wax over Pinnacle Souveran for a pretty good price savings though.
