I sent my car to the bodyshop to do some custom work on the mirrors. Since the job is not paint related and I was only leaving the car for 3 days, I requested them not to wash the car and just leave it dirty. However, when I arrived the shop to pick up the car, I can see the car was washed but with waterspots everywhere. Then the fender caught my eye (1st pic). What's this? Klasse haze? (J/k :D ) and many swirls! The pic really doesn't do its justice. It looks much worse in person.

The guy that prep the car wasn't there so I couldn't find out what they were doing or what was used on the car. Got home washed the car with Z7, and followed up with DAWN on that fender, and for comparison purpose also DAWN the fender on the other side, and the hood (I had Souveran topper on the hood I want to remove anyway). Wow! As you can see on the 2nd pic, that fender isn't beading anymore and everything sheet off. Arghhhh, my mind was thinking what happened to my 20 coats of Zaino? Why were they using abrasize to wash my car? And, no Dawn is not the culprit for the water sheeting because the other fender and the hood still beads water. After the wash, some sections of that fender looks a little greyish and I see swirls!

From now on, whenever I leave my car in the shop, I would affix 4-5 "NO CAR WASH" signs everywhere on the car with spanish translations. I suggest others do the same!

That fender that is sheeting water is very intersting, especially since the other fender is beading water with the Dawn wash. Would you please give us a follow up if you ever find out what the body shop used on that fender?
 
Thats strange. I have a feeling that while they were installing the new mirror, they might have gotten the fenders dirty and used Prepsol or something similar to remove it.



Sorry to hear that... at least the mirrors with the clears look great!
 
the sheeting on your car looks better than the beading ;)





at my car dealer it's drive through wash, so the sign that I put on the rear view mirror better get your attention really quickly
 
Suggestion for next time:



Never try to fix someone else's mistake before ensuring that they have taken responsibility in case it cannot be fixed by you.



Once you touch it, you have "destroyed the evidence", and they can claim you made it worse and refuse to fix it.



example - couple of weeks ago I noticed some wet-looking spots on my rear seat and center console after picking the car up from service. I thought it might just be water, and I was in a hurry, so I just drove the car away. But they didn't dry, and rubbing one with my finger didn't help. Now, there was a good chance I could have repaired this myself. But what if it was overspray from some lubricant or the deoderant/anti-fungal junk they sprayed in my vents? There MIGHT have been permanent leather damage. So, even though it was now the weekend, I called and left a message for my service adviser saying that I had seen the problem and wasn't going to touch it. They called me 1st thing Monday morning, had me come in and they fixed it while I waited. It turned out only to be vinyl cleaner. But if I had tried to fix it myself and couldn't, they might claim my attempts had somehow fixed the stains into the leather and therefore it was my responsibility. (Even good dealers aren't the world's most ethical folks....)
 
They probably prepped the car with POLYCRACKER or similiar product. Polymers and silicones are a body shops worst nightmare. In order to prevent the introduction of polymers in the shop, some will prep areas to be worked on with Polycracker. This eliminates the need for them to add fisheye eliminator to their paint,
 
I don't know if I am permitted to provide a link, but Meguiar's announced their new products for 2011.

I'm sure, TID will carry many of them in the future.

So, what say you all?

Anything stand out in particular? Something that really intrigues you or something which you think will be a bust?

I have a few things I think I'll try.

1. Ultimate Wax

2. Endurance Dressing (Spray)

3. Engine Cleaner

4. The DA Microfiber System (although I have NO idea what it is)

5. Ultimate Polish (consumer version of M205).
 
I'm relatively new to detailing, and have gone from using the consumer line to the professional and detailer lines of products. So when I saw the new product list as prodominantly consumer line, they just look like updated versions of existing products.

I am interested in the ultimate polish too, the quote was

Ultimate Polish is derived from M205 in much the same way Ultimate Compound is derived from M105. So it does have some fine SMAT abrasives in it, unlike M07 which is a pure polish. It gives the same sort of long buffing cycle that M205 does when used with a D/A but the final feel to the finish is more like what M07 leaves. Very nice surface refining and plenty of polishing oils in this one. If you've got a dark colored car it will noticeably darken and richen the appearance

I am interested in the ease of use and how the oils look.

And I am always wanting to know more about new waxes :D
