New Jeep has Xzilon protectant on it - what should we use from now on?

My wife and I just bought a new Jeep Rubicon... mostly to tow behind our motorhome during our travel as photographers.

And, we got suckered into buying Xzilon paint protection on the Jeep. I'm sure it's a good sealant, but we paid way more than we needed to for a good sealant. Anyway, water under the bridge now, so... moving forward.

The finish is fantastic now, but pulling the Jeep behind a diesel pusher motorhome, I'm sure the paint is going to take a bit of a beating and I know I'm going to need to start using a protectant/sealant on a fairly regular basis.

With Xzilon protectant on it now, what would be good to use for protectant/sealant in the future?

Any sealant will do a good job if applied regularly. For me I like the Poorboys World EX-P. You might also think about a waterless wash to keep the paint clean from the diesel exhaust. Poorboys Spray & Wipe would be a good choice for this;)

Thanks for the reply, Dave. Do you think there would be any issues using another brand of sealer or protectant on top of the Xzilon?

What's the deal with the waterless wash? Is it a spray on that you wipe off? Wouldn't that scratch he surface with the dust?
 
Nice jeep any sealent will be fine and yes the poorboys is a spray on wipe off dusty car kinda thing...

PS whats up with a panasonic??

So there would be not issues or problems putting a new paint sealant product (like Opti-Coat) on top of a different brand of paint sealant (like Xzilon)? No weird interactions or anything and the new sealant will stick to the old sealant just fine?

I see... just good for quick wipe down of a little dust... not for a dirty surface.

Can't remember what camera I used for this pic... pocket camera (LX5) which I use for snapshots like this, or one of my Micro4/3s cameras (GH2 or GF1) .... m4/3 format rocks for travel photography work and casual stuff. And I use 5DMkII/L-lenses for my commercial and professional portrait work.

You can add another sealant on top of what you had put on at the dealership there will be no bonding issues.

Spray and wipe is a waterless wash designed by Poorboys to use when he entered car shows. Since he drove the car to the show it was used to clean the car. In you case with the Jeep it would be ideal for cleaning up once you've arrived at your stop. It would also work wonders on the front of that Class A motor coach to remove the bugs.

Thanks, Dave.

Your comments lead me to my next consideration... what to do for the full body paint on the coach. It's 41' long... quite a beast. And the front does take a ton of abuse while on traveling on the road. I have no idea what the previous owner used on it, but it's dirty now and I have to decide on the approach to take with it.

I would hire someone to do that job, its a lot of real estate to clean just on the outside.

You might check with the local truck stop wash places or RV places to see what they have available.


If you want to do the out side on your own. A sealant is what I would use once you've cleaned the outside up real good.
 
Most sealants and wax applications I would not see any complications or issues
Opti-Coat on the other hand I would not use. Nor do I see a reason to even if there are no complications.

Opti-Coat wants to bond to the CC. If its bonding to the Xzilon and NOT the clear coat when the Xzilon lets go there goes the Opti-Coat. Would be a waste.

If you polished the Xzilon off and applied Opti-Coat it can do what it is designed to do. BOND to the CC and become permanent.

So i would just use a good glaze/sealant like Klasse and top with some Carnauba if you want that extra warm feeling and call it a day.
 
Dave.... I so agree with you... I need a professional to clean up the motorhome exterior. Power tools and all.

vitalcarcare... ok, good to know that the Opti-Coat isn't a good choice with the Xzilon on there but that other sealants on top of the Xzilon will be OK if I want to add another measure of protection. Main thing I don't want to do is apply a sealant that needs contact with the clear coat, or will be a problem with the Xzilon, or not work/bond well with the Xzilon.

Klasse would do. Could go with the AIO which is a classic tried and true product or just the sealant glaze. Or use aio over sg and be set for a while

I would sayOptimum Opti-Seal would be a better option over opti-coat. Only a sealant no cleaning so would lay over the Xzilon.

PB's EXpis awesome. I love PB stuff, especially for sunny environments. Sounds like with it travelling behind the Class A youll see all sorts of weather

I use M Seal quite a bit.

You might like JetSeal109. This stuff can be put on just about everything and its got some paste wax in that kit.

I say keep the Xzilon for as long as possible. You utimately want as much protection between UV/IFO as possible.
