Do body shops always put a clear coat on after repainting a part of a newer model vehicle? I know it sounds like a dumb question but just making sure.
 
Yes, they do, it is part of the paint job.



If they don't then they are ripping you off, whenever you pay, your body work statement usally states how much the clearcoat costs and the estimated labor.
 
Yep. Attempted break in. Bent the door handle off, broke the lock, but never got in. So they have to replace the door handle, repaint the door, and either bend the metal back the thieves bent or slap some body filler on there. I hope not the latter. :( They did it in the middle of the day at a shopping center parking lot.

The work doesn't seem to be that bad, from what I have ALWAYS seen, the more expensive the car, the more invovled the owner seems and the better the car is maintained all adds to the shop's effort.



Sure it shouldn't, but if people see that you really like your car they always put a little extra effort into it.



Guess they really wanted your car, must be a pain to come out and see that, hopefully when the work is all done and said and it is perfect you'll forget it even happended.



Sounds like these people were more stupid that a theif, first off if they wanted to steal your car, that was the wrong time, they probaly saw it and make a rash decision, and they can't even finish what they started, what a bunch of meat heads. Sorry to hear the bad news but I'll be looking forward to pictures of the results. If you can, take some before and after pictures for me will ya.
 
Sounds like what happened to our '02 Expedition a few weeks ago. Luckily, they didn't get in but there was over $800 of damage, just to the door. Apparently the rear entertainment system that is standard equipment in the Eddie Bauer models was their intended target. The dealership where we bought it said they have had several in that had the rear entertainment systems stolen and repairs ran $4000 to $6000.



The body shop will show the clearcoat as a separate line item in their estimate.
 
What kind of systems do those SUV's have? One of the lcd screens or something? Probaly those Honda kids trying to get them for their civics to match thier purple chasis neon lights.

It's an 7" LED screen mounted right behind the overhead console with a VCR in the floor console along with the CD changer. They guy who installed my alarm said the manufacturer was Audiovox. It's not the best but it does have a nice picture and it keeps my 6 year old entertained on long drives.



Speaking of Honda, I read in Car & Driver that the Acura 3.2TL is a popular target also. The HID headlights are a direct replacement on the Honda Accords. The guy who did the paint and body work for me said they have had quite a few come through in recent months.
 
Actually, the thought of theft never crossed my mind. I had the alarm installed after the damage was repaired.



The entertainment system is standard equipment for the Eddie Bauer Expeditions. We wanted something to entertain our son while we were making a long trip. The LED screen is a flip down set up. Plus, they were making some tremendous deals and we got it for $2500 under invoice, which is about $10,000 under the sticker price.
 
You know what you may want to consider.... you know how you flip down the front visors and you need to flip up the lid to use the mirror? Could you get a plate like your mirror but snap it over the led screen when not being used??? if you could get it the same shade and almost flush with the screen and seat then maybe they would pass over your truck....

While the shop may touch up the paint, don't let them touch up the clear coat. They must clear coat the entire panel. When clear coat is touched up there is a halo around the area. You can see touched up clear coat halos in the sunlight very easy.
 
Cleaned this bad boy up today for one of our customers. Nice little car with some power.
