Hello,



I just wanted to introduce myself and ask a question. I have been lurking on these boards for quite some time now (over a year, maybe even two) and I have learned quite a bit from all of the professionals and enthuasiasts who share their knowledge and experience. I currently own a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX and a 1995 Nissan 240SX, and try my best to keep them looking good, however difficult it is, considering I am full-time at college and work as well. I look forward to learning more as time progresses!



Now for my question. I found a PC 7336 at a local pawn shop which looks to be in decent condition and I wanted to pick it up considering it is for sale for under $50. The only problem is that it is missing the wrench and handle. Are these parts difficult to get replaced, and can a regular box end wrench be used to remove and install backing plates? Thanks in advance!

I only ever use a real wrench on my pc, the factory one is in the box which is in the attic. The handle can be purchased at any local Porter Cable authorized repair center. You can check online for the nearest one to you, and give them a call.
 
I hardly ever even use the handle on my PC. I have pretty big hands, so I just hold the head. The only time I use the head is if I need to control it going from one surface (horizontal) to another (vertical) in one section.



I didn't think a normal wrench would fit, but I guess it will. I might have to give it a try eventually.
 
Ok, I'll try without the handle first and gauge how that feels. Figure I'll pick up a 5" counter weight to see how that feels as well and a set of pads and backing plates. I saw the Sonus kit that Autopia offers, looks like a good kit to start with.
 
Well I finally picked up the PC today, it is a 7336 and the guy threw in a handle and wrench too, I paid ~$53 out the door for it. I tried to haggle him on the price, but he wouldn't budge. Oh well I suppose :) Now I just need to get some pads and some Meguiars #16 to go with my NXT and I should be ready to go at it on my detailing guinea pig.



I still am trying to determine what else I should do to the paint as far as removing swirl marks and polishing goes... I do have a tube of ScratchX and a bottle of #7, should I give it a go with that or should I try a different scratch remover and/or polish? Here is what I plan to do:



wash w/Meguiars Gold Class

clay w/Mothers clay

scratch/swirl removal w/ScratchX

polish w/#7

wax w/#16 over NXT



Any suggestions??? Thanks!
 
You got a great deal on that.



Scratch X is ment to be used by hand. So if you use it with the PC, I think your supposed to go at a slow speed. #7 is a final glaze. Not really a polish.



Scratch X is a very good product, but depending on the damage on your paint, it might not be enough. Sticking to meguiars, two great products for defect removal with the PC are #80 Speed Glaze and #83 DACP
