Anyway I have been reading these forums off and on as well as the forums over at meguiars and f150online. But the reason I am posting to day is to ask a question that I cannot seem to find a concrete answer for.

First I am extremely sorry if this has been answered before and I just could not find the solution.
I am starting to get very heavy into the detailing process and I am even thinking of possibly having a detailing side job. My starter car is my finacee's 01 sunfire that has been severly neglected. From 01-04 it was washed about 3 or 4 times from what she tells me( did'nt know her back then). Since I have washed, clayed, and waxed the car.

I guess my question is what are the proper steps and what products would be recommended for these steps.
1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Wash
4. ?
5. ?
6. Wax?

Her car has severe swirl marks, light/heavy scratches, oxidation, fading.
I appreciate any help.

Mwall welcome :howdy

There is plenty of good info here.
each person has their own way of doing things, but you will find that many will

4.polish (mechanical) (Megs DACP or Poorboys SSR's, something along those lines)
5.cleaner (chemical) like AIO or UPC

but each person is different, thats why you don't get a "concrete answer"
You can also check out this thread Detailing according to Jngrbrdman

Good luck and enjoy your stay.

Welcome to the site....Can you tell me are you doing this all by hand??

Product selection will have allot to do with it other wise...

The correct process would be

Wash
Clay with lube then no need to wash again
Swirl remove
Polish
Wax / seal or both

Welcome. You methods look good. As far as what to use after claying, if this is your first detail and you will be doing it all by hand then I would use a good paint cleaner. Klasse AIO is excellent. I don't know what you are planning for your last step product, but if you are going to wax then you may want to consider a glaze to mask some of those swirls and then top that with a wax. Pinnacle's XMT carnauba finishing glaze is awesome and it can be applied by hand. You could then top the glaze with a good carnauba. Poorboy's Natty's blue is excellent.

If you were thinking of going with a sealant as your last step product then don't use a glaze. (glazes prevent the sealants from bonding properly) Poorboy's EXP, Four Star UPP and Wolfgang DGPS are all excellent sealants. Sealants have to have time to cure in order to cross link and adhere to the paint's surface. So be sure to wait the proper time before adding additional coats of sealant usually 12-24 hours. You can then top with a wax if you wish or leave the sealant all by itself. It's up to you.

If you find after your first detail that you are completely hooked and want to do this for the rest of your life (which is likely to happen), then as soon as your finances will permit I would suggest that you get a dual action polisher so that you can effectively remove swirls. Along with some good polishes like Poorboy's or Menzerna a PC can do wonders!

Good luck to you my friend! Please feel free and welcome to ask any question. This forum is full of great guys and gals who are eager to help. Remember to post some before and after pics of your detail to share with us! Welcome to the addiction. :)
