hey guys. firts post!! im a hobbiest detailer and am seriuosly thinking about making it my source of income. a run down non functioning car wash just went up for lease in my nieghborhood. my wife thinks its a dump, but all i see is potentioal. what i do on the side mainly for fun is window tinting, full details, wet sanding and wax, plus under coating. the building that im looking at has been almost gutted of all its main car washing equipment. it has an office a waiting room, pump room and a LARGE drive thru bay. its located in a very busy gas station parking lot as well. i dont want to fix the car was as much as i want to turn it into a detail shop. it would cost too much cash. there is no floor heaters!!! ouch! im thinking about just doing a make shift set-up using a couple electric power washer pumps. i would have to keep it under $2000.00!! keeping in mind all my other expensise.. the lease is really cheap.. only $600 per month. but im scared crappless!! the building needs so much work, and its in a rural area. my strong areas are in networking and sales. i have no problems with that. i know how to get work and im good at what i do. but its that whole leap from doing it in my driveway, to having the resposibilities of a run down shop. i will be checking out the forums and reading up on the latest products, but please.. any advise would be great and very helpfull. i'll also be posting pics of the lot and stuff once i hit my quota
 
Not to be too harsh, but seeing your other posts about not knowing what clay bar is and never using a real high-speed polisher I'm not too sure this is a good decision on your part. I think you will soon be way over your head in expenses and with little return because you don't have the experience. Many of us have researched products and honed processes over years before actually becoming 'professional' in our businesses.
 
I agree with that...Generally speaking ,and please not take it personal, a professional at any job has to know much more than the customers....

So start slowly slowly,ask your questions here,practice with the ''tools &products'' and during that you will see that more questions are going to appear....

When i finished school and i got a job as a sale man.my boss told me something that i will hold it for all my life long.JUST BE SURE OF WHAT ARE YOU SELLING!!! With that, nobody can tell you that you are wrong,and nobody can doubt you....

I'll say this, since the day I registered, I didn't make a post until about 3 months ago, researching all that time, and I still am not sure exactly what to do and how to do it, although I've learned A LOT in that time. Just do your research and don't jump into anything, because ruining someone else's car could get real bad, real quick.

This post right after the "what is a clay bar" post kinda makes me wonder.... :think:
 
I'd say go be an apprentice somewhere first under a real professional detailer and learn some of the ropes... If you have no idea what a clay bar is which is a very basic tool of the trade then you're simply not ready to tak on this type of venture just yet. Learn your skills first and then worory about branching off on your own.
