Im Brent and im 24 years old. I just recently I would say in the past 2 years really started to care about detailing a car and keeping it clean. All my friends know me to ALWAYS have a clean car, im anal like that, and I honestly want to start doing it the correct way, with better products.
There is some micromarring from the bodyshop that fixed my car after an accident that i will hope to be removing soon.
Im going to be buying a PC 7424 here in the next 2 or 3 weeks and going to need to find a decent cutting compound to completly smootht he paint.
I just joined today, so i will look around the site before i ask dumb questions. But here are a few pics of my car not bad for having only a general idea of what im doing and doing it all by hand.

Would really like some reccomendations (sp) on what kinda stuff i need to be using. ONe of my main reasons for coming here. That and alot of my friends always comment on my car and ask me to do their car, but they dont take care of their paint like at all. And needs alot of work.

Right now i use just some basic cheap stuff i guess its cheap iono.

Wash
Clay with yellow or white clay just depending on what i can find at the local parts store.

Step 1 of Mequiars
Step 2 of Mequiars
Mequiars Tech Wax
and This Mequiars Glaze (its in kinda a tan bottle)

I do all this buy hand so you know it takes awhile.

I would really like to know what kinda compounds or swirl removers i need. I will gladly buy the 1-5 of whatever brand i waws reading about earlier as to be prepared for whatever my friends throw at me, but i jsut wanna get something to get me by for now.
 
What you're using currently isn't necessarily the best stuff, but it isn't bad quality by any means. The best advice I can offer you is to read as much as you can on here. Detailing is all about personal preference and what works for some people may not work for others. There are a ton of reviews on all of the things you're searching for and by reading what people have to say about them, you should be able to make an informed decision about what you think you'll like.
 
Welcome !! Nice ride !!! There is wealth of knowledge here .You are sure to be pointed in the right direction.As was said the products you use are not bad by any means but there are a lot better. I too started with those same products. Reading is power and the key to a better detail. Find what products fit into your needs . Testing and trying different products as you go along .With this you will find the ones you like the best.The Porter cable is a great tool that will elevate the look of any product when used properly and armed with quality pads. The key is read ,read.:D
 
well the car is 3 years old now so im not doing a horrible job of it, i have the basic understanding of all the products, the only thing im confused on is the pads. there seam to be so many options.

Welcome :welcome: :howdy Nice looking ride :bigups. As far as products go it depends if you want a deep look or something that would make it POP. What you have to get out. There are many many factors. As you said you were going to look around the site the search on the site is awsome.
I use the Lake Country 7.5" Full contact pads. They have worked great for me for as long as I had them. Good luck on your search:rockon

Howdy from Tomball. I was in the same spot as you a couple of years ago. Through reading and rereading articles and comments from the knowledge base, I began buying and trying various products. I now have my preferred products, yet with this addiction, always feel the need to try something new.

Lastly, I recommend that you use microfibre towels if you do not do so already. The ones offered by the vendors here as well as other sites will greatly help in maintaining your finish.

yeah, nothing touch's my car but microfibers and applicator pads, no one leans on my car, i dont even lean on my car.
As to what i have to get out its really nothing deep, i take good care of my paint, wash it 1-2 times a week with the 2 bucket method using microfibers 2 or 3 per wash depending on how dirty the car is. so its mainly just fine fine fine scratch's from the bodyshop not buffing correctly and little stuff you get from the quick detailer.

And as for drying, i use an absorber followed by more clean microfibers to get the little bits of water left behind. I thought about the waterblade, but it makes paranoid dragging something across the paint like that. heh
