New Common Core question

No one needs to have "Data Collection" through the School System, do they ???
Why do they need this information ?
I hear that even in the Doctor's office they are now asking you things that have nothing to do with the reason you are there..

I have absolutely nothing to hide, nothing in my past, no hidden agenda -present or future..

Just not so sure I am ready to comply with something that is really pushing the envelope of some of our freedoms in this Country..

I still say that this is the way an Entity (choose which one you want) can figure out how to Control.. Control - what ? Pick something...

I like what Ron said - Post # 18 - tongue in cheek - "We turned out soooooo bad"

And remember this - Generations Before Us had way less to work with - and look at the Incredibly Beautiful, Wonderful, Legacy they left us !!!!

I remember reading that some Mormon Pioneers coming all the way across the Country from the East Coast, Nauvoo, Illinois, etc., invented a way using a counter they made attached to the spokes of the wooden wagon wheels, to measure how far they traveled...
What was it - C = pi x D...

Yeah, no Charts were consulted there... Just a good sense of what - oh yeah, those multiplication tables, etc., some good common sense, a strong faith, and a desire to do good...

You good young men with young children - I feel for you and what challenges lie ahead... You and your Sweetheart are still in charge.. Try to find a good path - one that you know in your gut is right, and together, steer your family along that path...

We (the Old School) will ever be here to support you... How you say ? Well, we are Wise.......

I feel pretty much the same

If I choose to give the info, it's my problem.
But I don't want to be compelled to do so,
and won't subject my kids to that either. If they choose to do so, then it's their problem.
 
You may think what I am about to write has nothing to do with what's been said here, but I want to recommend a very eye-opening video on YT titled "The truth may scare you." If you watch it, and can summarize what it's about, I will send you a sample of any product you would like, assuming I have it. The video is not fiction. I saw the topic of the video in real life even before I watched the video. Let me know what you think...

I watched it - all of it..

I am so glad that -

1. The adversary in whatever flavor, etc., he comes in, absolutely CANNOT have power over me or you unless you choose to allow him to have it..
2. The adversary cannot read your mind, thoughts, etc., he CANNOT get in there, again, unless you or me allow him to come in..
3. There is a God - our God in Heaven who will come back and reign here and bind the adversary and his minions, for 1000 years (the Millennium), and allow those on this earth to
get everything ready for the end of this earthly life as we know it and prepare this earth for its paradisaical glory..
4. The adversary and his minions will be loosed again on the earth after the Millennium for a season, and then the great war will take place, and the adversary and his minions will
be defeated.

Ron, the use of stimulant medications in children for ADD/ADHD is out of control. We have whole families of kids getting Adderall, Concerta, Ritalin, Dexedrine, Quillivant, etc...

For those not familiar what what these drugs are, they are schedule 2 (most restricted class of drugs legal to prescribe in USA) amphetamine based stimulants. Kids are being given heavy duty amphetamines to perform/behave in school, along with antidepressants, antipsychotics/anti-schizophrenics, and tranquilizers to be put to sleep at night.

It's not uncommon from where I'm from for TEACHERS to recommend parents put there children on amphetamines due to some perceived problem. Most child psychiatrist in my area seem to give almost EVERY child that leaves the office with a script for some "behavioral issue" the same cocktail of drugs. In actuality however, most of these scripts are just coming from the family Doc.

The worse part about it is - once the kids get on it - they rarely get off. Since use of amphetamines / stimulants results in tolerance (and dependence), the doses are increased and increased over and over again - well beyond what the manufacturer recommends and what has been studied.

What's coming down the road next is mandatory reporting of child abuse for healthcare practitioners. While in the surface this may sound "good", get ready for your kids to be pulled away from you and "interviewed" in a room by their Dr, dentist, pharmacist, or nurse during routine visits to be screened for "abuse" - regardless if there is reason to suspect it or not.

The neurological and psychological use of these drugs on the developing mind is unclear. While academic performance often does increase (you would have done great in school if you were on speed all the time too) - what is the cost of this?

The drug industry is responsible for much. When they relaxed the rules on direct marketing (free market at work), the drug companies can solve many problems ...for a price.
 
Having been involved in the med field for many decades..... I would bet that 40% + of the university that was near us was on something for add/adhd.

Real shame. When I was young, teachers used to teach, to reach ALL the kids in class.

Dr.s Nurses EMS, teachers etc are mandated reporters for suspected abuse. Only caveat is no malice. Then recourse free.

I was just the bad kid way back when. Always in trouble for something. If I was a kid now - I'd probably be a lot safer though - high on Ritalin on the couch if front of a Play Station.

These are all easy to solve - in your head - without graphs, papers, pencils, etc...

This will only lead to more kids walking around with charts and tables in their pockets.

You contractor will no longer need a calculator or a mind, only a table.

It seems like they don't want the kids to remember the multip tables. But use charts like above.

There is a high probability that your engineer is using a chart for many basic and complex small scale calculations, especially if they are mechanical/hvac, electrical or structural. But your engineer still needs a mind. The chart is to make you more efficient after you've mastered the concept. It will be great when 3x4=11 and I've shown it, so now it's not my fault when a building falls down.

In the real world, I back-check my calculations spreadsheets and then critical Calcs and spreadsheets are QA/QC'd; if everyone is using a different path to get to the same answer, efficiency and QC issue will arise in a heartbeat.

Since I mentioned spreadsheets, Maybe Bill Gates is working on a new version of Excel that incorporates common core math.
