tdekany: this kid @ my college has a r32 and we're gonna race soon.. ill let u know the results...:bounce

that is true about the drivers though... i smoked a 6spd 350z over the summer... it was kinda funny... but he sucked @ driving. but regardless, after test driving a r32, and talking to the salesman about it, it really seems like its overpriced... then he tried 2 tell me it would keep up with a sti, and evo... :nixweiss

I am not sure that it is overpriced.

Yeah... the BS salesman will tell people is unbelievable.

According to Motor Trend, the R32 hits 60 in 5.9 seconds and runs a 14.2 @ 97.6 mph 1/4 mile. Hardly what I would call a pig.

Honestly, I'd go with the Accord coupe with the V6 and 6 speed.

hmmmm all good choices and ideas but i'm still not sure...

-Scottwax- i just feel like going to an accord is a downgrade from wut i have now and thats exactly wut i am looking not to do, but i do here good things about them.

-Corey Bit Spank- as for the downpayment on a house, that won't be a problem i will be out of college by the age of 19 and be making 100,000 dollars if i keep going the way i am now and hope to continue, i am a pilot and i basically get to skip 2 semesters at college because of how far along i am. Not to mention i am a senior in high school i don't need a house anytime soon. I am looking to become an Air traffic COntroller like my father and be a flight instructor as well. But def. a good thought.

Being a VW enthusiast, I have to say the R32 is quite nice . . . certainly the most potent in the GTI line up (though not called a GTI). The 20Th Anniversary Edition is pretty cool, as well as the 337.

I gotta be honest with you . . . having owned 3 VWâ€â„¢s from the MK4 platform (99.5 â€â€œ present), VWâ€â„¢s quality is absolutely terrible. So bad that this will be the last VW I own for some time. Youâ€â„¢ll find a multitude of problems, be it electrical or mechanical. They look good and the fit/finish is seemingly smooth, but VW has a lousy maintenance record. Iâ€â„¢ve seen the same components fail time and time again.

Iâ€â„¢d like to recommend a VW, but it ainâ€â„¢t gonna happen. A recent auto industry report cited four popular VW models dead last in reliability.

New Legacy 2.5GT? :)
Likely to be my next new car a few years down the road . . . I've had a chance to ride in one, and it is a step up for Subaru, IMO. The interior had a much more quality feel to it than previous generations, paint looked good, and I was impressed with the power and handling. 250 hp stock, and Cobb is working on a reflash . . . exhaust work and a mild reflash will probably put the car in the 300 hp range.

I too had awful experiences with Subaru service. My one car was out of action for months over a defective pressure plate, they tried everything else while I repeatedly told them to do *that*, they only tried it when I threatened legal action- solved the problem and they were all "hey, look at the defective pressure plate" like they were astounded at something I considered obvious.

The WRX was in the shop all the time over a check engine light, they never did figure it out.

Oh, and there were incidents of "I told you not to wash it"; "we didn't"; "then what's that?"; "well, we washed the car parked next to it, must've got something on it, see, you should've let us wash it".

Oh, and note that if you mod most cars you're outa luck warranty-wise. My Audi dealer always covered me when I did this stuff, but most places won't. Tinker with a Subie and you'll be on your own if something breaks. Heh heh, they can't even maintain 'em when they're stock

Accumulator,

Sorry to hear you had bad luck with your dealership. I've been fortunate in that my WRX has only had a couple of minor problems, and the dealership's been quick to handle them with no issues. I always think it's such a shame that a marque gets its reputation for service from their dealership network, and so many of the dealers are in league with Satan. :(

While you're right, in general, that Subaru isn't very mod friendly as a whole, I think it's highly dealer-dependent . . . my local Subaru club is sponsored by one of the area dealerships, and they do everything they can to make sure warranty work is honored. Obviously, if you've cranked the boost to 23 psi with a manual controller and popped the motor, well, they're not going to replace the motor. But, a buddy of mine is very active in the autox scene, and is running a Cobb AccessPort Stage II setup on is WRX wagon . . . he recently had tranny troubles, and it's all being covered under warranty, no problem. I've read of others going to a dealership for tranny problems with no more than a cat-back exhaust for mods, and they were denied (or, at the very least, hassled and told "this time, but never again"). We're pretty lucky to have a fairly lenient dealership in the area.

Landscaping, huh? I should have done that instead of caddying back in h.s. All I could manage was a '88 Civic hatchback with a finicky radio :p

What about the RX-8 or '05 Mazdaspeed Miata? Of your choices I would say S4 :xyxthumbs

Tort- Good to hear that some people are having good experiences with both their Subies and the dealerships. I'm especially impressed that your buddy'd trans was covered.

The whole dealer experience can be *so* important these days now that some stuff can't be done by just anybody with a wrench. Every time I consider buying something other than a Porsche/Audi product my wife reminds me that having our cars serviced by Stoddard Imports has changed *everything*, really raised the bar to where nobody else in our area deserves any consideration. This no doubt colors my opinions about which cars to recommend.

We ought to name Stoddard the official Autopian-friendly dealer, even thought its only Porsche Audi and in Ohio :(

I sure hope Stoddard considers branching out to other parts of the US like several other dealers have. I'd sure go check them out.

I am sorry - I didn't mean to work you up! You both have nice cars.

BTW, What's your official 0-60 time?

dont worry u didnt work me up... as for my 0-60 time i have no idea... ive read different times in multiple magazines which range from 6.7- 6.1 even in one magazine they'll have different times... i dont know.. ive even heard about some hondas being "super hondas" lol.. which is when they put out more horsepower than they are rated at. i never had my car dynoed, but as i said, ive raced r32s, 350z, rx8s and have never loss yet. the only car that did beat me was a srt4 with no exhaust.. i kinda expected that though.

i guess its not overpriced when considering the prices of the evo and sti, but it is kinda pricy for a vw gti. i think if base price was around 27, then i would def recommend it. all in all, i think it comes down to that fact that vw likes limited numbers such as the gti 20th anv, and the gti337, and now the r32, which will obviously make the price a lil higher.. correct?

Yes and no . . . VW released these models to quench the thirst of VW enthusiasts. All three models widely differ from their GTI counterparts . . . the R32 price tag is justified by the 240 HP VR6 and AWD.

Navindra: You may have a Super Honda :lol ...Those cars you have beat are definately faster on paper, but yes I know...The driver means a lot :)

Kenny: SRT-4 is pretty phat...still a neon, but balls out fast for the price. IM me, I have a sick video documentary on one...You will be on the way to the dealer once it's over :) ...

I guess that makes you a good driver! :D

Having 4wd in the r32 is a huge plus, compared to the 20th & 337s.

You do know that for an Xtra $30k HPA in canada will make the r32 one of the fastest cars on the road?

0-60 - 3.2seconds

1/4 m - 11.4 seconds

top speed 0 - 208mph!

The 1/4 mile run video clip on their site is awesome!!!!!

thats the twin turbo package right? i think they featured that car in the latest sport compact magazine

gsrstilez: its not a neon, its a really pissed off neon :D can u send me that documentary as well? im quite interested in that car.. my friend has one in shoreham putting down 280 @ the wheels, with only a couple mods... really light on the pocket compared to others... heard it sucks in the snow cause of the torque though..
