New car... some issues with Finish Kare 1000p

Just make sure to stay away from this guy in the future :D Too harsh?

Well what I tried to explain was that no matter what you use, the clearcoat has to be taken down far enough to get rid of the scratches, so it really shouldn't matter if it's a PC, Flex, or whatever... as long as you don't overdo it ... I really didn't see his point.

off the topic a bit, but I have to ask.. how did you get your pics to show that flake in that GTI on your site? My Z has beautiful flake in the white, but I just can't get it to show up.

If you want to *REALLY* split hairs, it's entirely possible that the forced rotation of the Flex *MIGHT*, in some cases, make it a little aggressive for final polishing, even with mild pad/product combos. John Kleven and I went round-and-round on this and he even did some experiments with his glossmeter that seemed to support this, though not 100% conclusively IMO.

But all that having been said...it's not likely to be an issue. You have the right idea- abrasion is abrasion and nothing oughta be "too harsh" if you use the appropriate pads/products/techniques.

turn all other lights off

That's the way to do final inspections too, turn out all the lights except the one you're using to inspect (maybe an incandescent would be good, for a color like that).

Really? Hmmmm, I feel like the blackfire is so much more slick dirt/brake dust would slide off quite easy.

IME the FK1000P actually sheds dirt better than BF and this characteristic (and also the slickness) lasts longer. But there are a scad of variables. I found BF to be a rather "oily" product as sealants go, and I always suspected that the initial slickness was related to that.

yes, it is a bit oily I think as well... but on darker colors... man it does look great. It just never seems to harden the way that the FK does.

My Fiancee took a few pics tonight when we went out... the night shots look great.

Wow your car looks fantastic - great job.

thanks man... I appreciate it! My Fiancée and I went for a iride tonight and where we live is like bug haven... when I got back I was going to just wash it tomorrow and then I thought... well it's going to be 98 tomorrow lol, so tonight will be the time.. the bugs were still soft too haha.

The FK did great though... just putting the nozzle on stream got basically all of the bugs off, the few that didn't did with a simple wipe with the wash mitt with very little pressure. I have 2 layers on the front so far... I plan on putting about 5-10 on the front.

Looks great! I find a nice clean and polished white finish looks amazing after dark under all the artificial lights in the street!

Assuming you can work around the solvent effect and get that many on there, I'd expect five or six layers to be sufficient.
