New car on a new year!!! should be a celebration but...another detailing trails by KC

I plan on detailing my truck (1997 Red Ford F-150) on the first warm day. The truck was bought used and the paint is in pretty good condition. I plan on washing with Dawn, then claying, and I would like to try and remove some of the minor swirls before I try out a sample of Klasse AIO and then SG.



Which swirl remover do you recommend Meguiars #9 or 3M SMR?



I have tried a search and have found that the Meguiars is a little less abrasive than the 3M and I know you should work from the least abrasive up...



Any ideas or input as to what would be better??? :nixweiss

I've had good results using Meg's #9 2.0 by hand. It's certainly easy enough to use by hand and works well on minor swirls and imperfections. If you've got access to a buffer then 3M would likely be the better choice.



If you use Meg's, be sure to follow that with another DAWN wash to remove the leftover oils so your Klasse will bond properly.

After trying both, I think the #9 2.0 is better than the SMR. The #9 2.0 is much easier to work with and doesn't seem as abrasive as SMR. The SMR is a little more stubborn and hard to work with, but the #9 2.0 works in easily and wipes off without trouble.

I haven't used the 3M, but I can endorse the #9 2.0. I''ve had good results with it on two black cars using a PC with the CMA white foam pad. It works in smoothly and buffs out nicely.



Unfortunately, I'm going to get another chance to try it soon on the Acura. I just got it back from the body shop, where I had a new rear bumper cover painted and installed. They did a great job matching the paint, but they also washed the car before I picked it up and swirled everything pretty good (at least to my eye -- nobody else has noticed). I was a bit bothered, seeing as how I had Z5'd it just before I took it, but not too much, because I know that the PC, #9 2.0 and more Z5 will make short work of the swirlies. And it's not like I don't enjoy doing it anyway.

I use meguiar's body scrub. It removes the swirls and imperfections on the paint. I used it on all cars i detail. it's not as strong as a heavy compound but it works great it evens brings out the shine.

the income couldn't match the kinda car we desire to buy, proper care is greatly measure once we have own it.

after months of waiting! the car finally delivered & he cant wait to get on to it ........ as much $$$ has been paid for this ride ... so much the responsibility to care for it!!!! how then should he protect investment .....to avoid this investment to be another liability instead of assets.

he was considering sending for a polishing waxing job....the commercial ones 3 hours for $300 ...or 4 hours for $400 kinda job...
Suddenly he remember some of my article at cars magazines.... and he called me to detail

do you realised that - i was wearing a surgical glove while claying - coincidently while protecting a cut on my fingers & it seems to be the best for testing surface above contaminations.....I used to see others by putting on sandwich bag in their hand gliding on top of the paint to test surface imperfection ...but I have to agree with Matt Davis Meguiars Asia "less is more" why put our paint to more stress & danger

Apparently, i found an accidental hero - surgical glove.. if you cant feel it - you wouldn't know whether to remove.....* kindly rinse off prior moving on to the next area

Wash with ONR

Clay & ONR as lube

Paint & wax remover by Optimum Power clean (1:5 parts dilutions) & rinse off with water

Paint corrections with Rotary
Megs 205 with Lake country (LC) CCS cutting pads (some area Optimum Hyper Compound for a bit more cutting) Spread at speed 1 - gradually increase to speed 3 - 2nd passes relube again with ONR & a gentle brisk pass -

polishing with Megs 205 with Megs w8027 pads
Spread at speed 1 - gradually increase to speed 2 - back down on speed 1 again - 2nd passes relube again with ONR & a gentle brisk pass -

finishing with Megs 205 with Lake country (LC) CCS finishing pads
Spread at speed 1 - gradually increase to speed 2 - back down on speed 1 again (reduce strokes speed)

finishing with Megs 205 with Lake country (LC) CCS glazing pads
Spread at speed 1 - gradually increase to speed 2 - back down on speed 1 again (reduce strokes speed)

effortless care & one time applications
carefully corrected & polish prior coating, as it will be seal for good....any inperfection can be only be remove by wet sanding or compounding ...... no more waxes & sealant requires - ta da OPTI COAT

Great job KC. I am amazed at the amount of bonded contaminants that came off with the clay. For a new car it really is hard to believe the condition that it is delivered in.

2 reason to it - either it is not transport carried ...might be driven
and should you see our tar road condition - they can re-tar to a new surface & kaboom - tomorrow dug & cover = chances without proper supervision & dooms to decay

therefore protection is very important - due to the amount of treats from the acid rain - heat - plenty of rain - abusive climate
