New car, new interest in detailing...

Whats up guys, Im new to this forum. Ive lately been checking these forums out ever since I bought my 2008 Black Magic Pearl GTI. I used to have a white car, but ever since owning black Ive started to get crazy about detailing because of how much "pop" it has when its clean.

Anyways I had some paint work done to it and ended up getting alot of overspray on my car. I decided to place an order with ChemicalGuys since Ive read great reviews about them and all their products seem great. So I bought some clay bar, 3n nano polish, pads, speed wipe detailer etc to get me started.

Right now Im looking to remove this clearcoat(which will be no problem) but mostly looking to winterize my car, and continue with this detailing gig.

I have pretty much everything thats needed for prep before sealing/ wax but I just dont have any seal/wax right now and thats what Im looking to buy. Im looking for a sealant that will last a good 4 months(winter in California isnt TOO bad) and also looking for a wax I can top off the sealant with.

I really love doing this stuff, but Im pretty busy and I dont have the time to apply a wax on top of the sealant every 2 weeks so I was looking for something that will not only help reinforce the sealants strength, but also give it a shien and last for 1-2 months.

Ive been considering going with either Collinite 845 or CG M-Seal as a sealant, and maybe CG's Butter Wet Carnauba wax as a topper, but then again my knowledge of products is not as great as you guys and thats why Im asking for your advice. Im only mentioning many CG products just because Ive been impressed with the quality of them overall, but I dont mind buying other products either.

Please keep in mind, Im on a budget, and for the time being looking for products that arent too expensive, meaning Im usually hoping a product is under 25$ or so. When I get extra money on my hands later on, I will be buying more expensive stuff.

So in a nutshell, Im looking for the best bang for my buck sealant and wax. Looking for a wax that will provide some protection, but dirability and last somewhat long too. And the sealant to last 4 months or so.

I may have more to say but I cant think of anything right now. I look forward to being a part of this community and expanding in my knowledge because this stuff has become a virus for me lol

Heres a few pics of my car. May I also mention I do not have a porter cable/ machines to apply these things with. I will be applying it by hand. I bought the CG Durafoam pads but if theres anything better to use I will buy that.

well first off, Welcome to the forum. Secondly i would go with Optiseal topped with optimum car wax. Because with this combo you should see 5-6+++ months of protection with no problem. although col.845 last a while it really isnt a sealant so topping that with another wax wont always work. also you say you dont have a lot of time on your hands so this combo if you really take your time should take you 45 min at the most. good luck :}

Well when I said I dont have alot of time, I didnt mean I have to wax/ seal in a hurry, I meant I didnt want to set aside a day to wax my car every 2 weeks lol

The Optimum looks like good stuff. Is it really as durable as any other wax or is it just a wax topper? As for the optiseal, I dont see how a spray can actually provide so much durability?

Thanks for the suggestion, please keep em coming!

i as well as many others were all real skepticle at one time about this stuff.. but believe it or not optimum has really outdone themselves with optiseal, guys like scottwax, anthony orosco, david fermani, (all my idols hahah) use it too and on black it would blow you away

Ok so the process would go like this...?

Wash with Dawn

Clay with CG Clay Bar and Luber

Wash again

Polish with 3n Nano Polish and foam pad

Wash

Apply OptiSeal

Apply OCW?

Nice GTI. What kind of suspension set up do you have? Is your front lip painted? Post more pics when you're done detailing it!!!

Haha bro Im tempted2speed from golfmkv Ive been messaging you lately! Im on Eibach Sportlines and yup its painted.

My friend has a white 750li and because of the suggestion given on here it seems Ill buy the Optiseal and OCW for him but after reading all the rave reviews abotu the Blackfire Diamond stuff I think Ill be using it for mine without any wax as a topper, since some say a wax may even ruin the slickness it has.

What you think?

I have an '07 bmp GTI myself. Currently has three coats of BFWD on it. Love this stuff.

Am debating whether to top with a coat of Natty's Blue, but if I don't, I fully expect the

Blackfire to get my car through an Ohio winter.

Dude I was debating whether to do the Optiseal of BFWD but you convinced me just by saying that!

I was also debating whether to buy Natty's blue or OCW to top it but I cant decide

I'd put down a couple layers of BFWD and then live with it for a couple of weeks.

Adding a layer of wax on top may not be to your taste. I'm going back and forth

on topping my Blackfire as well.

If I keep dithering on that decision, the weather will make it for me in another

month or so.
