New Car Detailing

Good day - Well, I finally broke down and bought my first new car from a dealer - after 35 years of used cars I had enough of detailing the old cars up to my standards. Here is my questions regarding detailing new cars -

From my review of the forum, I should do a clay run on the paint after a good washing. My concern with this because it is new paint will my claying the paint cause swirls and such?

Now I have the BF WDALF Paint Protection, Gloss EP, and the ivory wax. When i did my mini cooper 3 years ago I used a 9227C to bring my baby up to my standards. With the BF product line she shined like no other Mini in Maine.

Can I follow the same detailing plan of using WDALF,then the GLOSS EP, and then the wax? Or should I use something else than the wax for my last step. I am looking for a high shine with longetivity. The wax was great with my mini when I used it, but Maine is very hostile to car paint and glass. So a better LSP would be very helpful for me.

What about doing the detailing by hand? Will that be better for the new paint than using my 9227 Polisher? And if I use the 9227 what foam pads will I need to use for each step? Being old school I prefer hand detailing (Wax on, Wax off) over using the polisher. But whichever way will give me the best shine is ok with me.

And what pad for the last step if I choose not to use the wax? I know this will depend on my LSP, but if you include the pad(s) needed for the product, that would be very helpful.

Thanks all - I am sure I will need more help later, but this is a good start. I have been detailing cars since my Dad taught me in the 1960's - Good old Turtle Wax was his "go-to" product. I really like the BFproduct line. I plan to take a week long trip to Montreal real soon, and would like to detail my new lady this weekend.....

Claying should be done even on new cars. A lot of times during transport, rail dust and things can be etched into the paint, not to mention whatever the dealership done to it. You wouldn't need a real aggressive polish and pad, but I think I would use a nice finishing polish just to be sure your new paint is perfect. After that, your options are endless as for the lsp. If it was my new car, I would Opti Coat it, but that's just me. Good luck and congrads on the purchase.

Here is you answer..as a polish a paint cleaner would work as well. It's a chemical based polish that has some correction abilities.

One that I really like for new cars is Poorboys World pro-polish one of the best products I have in my arsenal. Good on paint, plastic, windows you name!

For the LSP any good protection product you use will be good as long as its applied on a regular bases

I have a thread parked in the moderator section that I have been working on for the last week about new car detailing, it should be done soon. I have had other projects sneak up on me, but I will link it to this thread when I am done.

Congrats on the new car!

Claying can cause some swirl marks if not done absolutely carefully. Take your time, keep the clay clean, and you should be fine.

BLACKFIRE is a great line, no doubt, but I'm sure you hard work had something to do with it!

We would recommend using the GEP first. GEP has a chemical cleaner in it, so if you apply Wet Diamond first, the GEP will remove the Wet Diamond. Start with GEP, then Wet Diamond, then wax.

What about doing the detailing by hand? Will that be better for the new paint than using my 9227 Polisher? And if I use the 9227 what foam pads will I need to use for each step? Hand detailing will work best. In fact the only BLACKIFRE products recommended for use with a rotary polisher (the Makita) are the SRC Compund and SRC Finishing Polish. With the GEP, the Wet Diamond, and MS Wax we recommend either a DA polisher or by hand.

And what pad for the last step if I choose not to use the wax? I know this will depend on my LSP, but if you include the pad(s) needed for the product, that would be very helpful.

For the GEP we would recommend either a white polishing pad or a green all-in-one pad.

For both Wet Diamond and Midnight Sun Carnauba I would recommend a red waxing pad.

Again this should be done by DA polisher only.
