Hey everyone,

A friend of mine sent me here and the plethora of information is overwhelming. Right now the Search function is being abused by me.

Anyways, bought a new car: 2012 Camaro 2SS, BLACK(!)

Going to do my first real wash/clay/seal/wax on the car in a week or so when the products arrive.

Would like most to learn some good techniques for each of the stages.

Note: The products I ordered are as follows:

Wash: ONR, 2-Buckets + Grit Guards

Clay: Meguiar's California Gold Clay Bar

Sealant: Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant

Wax: Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax

Tires: Tuf Shine Tire Kit

Inter: Lexol Leather Cleaner, Vinylex

I think that covers most of the what I need. Now to learn how to use it all.

Welcome to Autopia. The place that will either make you love owning a black Camaro or hate it!!

Keep in mind that claying is an abrasive process and should be followed up with a correction step. Especially on black. I highly suggest doing a small test spot before proceeding with the whole car. Another alternative is a decontamination wash from a company called Automotive International (AutoInt) Automotive International > Home They sell a product called an ABC wash that will deeply and safely decontaminate your paint prior to sealing it.

I agree with David on the clay bar. The Camaro should have a pretty hard clearcoat, but I'd proceed with a light touch using the clay. Hopefully you won't have too much contamination and you may only have to do the road grim areas (behind the wheels). Good luck with it and show us a pic.

My condolences to your family, friends and loved ones. They won't see you any more as you will be cleaning your black Camaro all the time! LOL! :)

Your list looks like a good start. Be super careful with your washing and drying technique... That's where most damage is done. And you will want a good quick detailer for maintenance. And get quality microfiber towels.

And welcome!

David - Thanks for the input on the clay bar.

VR8 - I'll try to get a pic up soon, probably after the wash. When doing the baggie test at what point does one say "ok there are too many impurities, i need to clay"?

Brad - Hahahhaha...Yea I am trying to read up on techniques as we speak. I forgot to list that I also have a bottle of Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer too. As for MF towels, I have about 10 different ones, ranging from Meguiars to Viking to some cheap Vroom ones. Also picked up a Meguiars MF Wash Mitt. Nice car list btw, couldn't find a good used Cayman S that meet my needs/budget so I went with a new Camaro instead...btw the 993's are amazing...need to see a pic of your C4S!

Welcome aboard.

I know,Black cars can be somewhat challenging, i drive a Black on Black Avalanche and love it.

Consider Paint sealant or nanowax it, looks great and last longer.

Of course the choice for products are overwhelming, chose wisely.

Good luck.

I have for sale an almost brand new 1997 Camaro SS Convertible with the SLP Package, 305 HP. I want $19,000.00 for it. It still has that new car smell inside. New tires were just installed on the car. Red with black covertible top. Car is a Garage Queen ,obviously, with that kind of mileage and has never been driven in the rain.

Car has all options that were available for the SS/SLP Package; even an engine oil cooler, special exhaust and an SLP installed Torsen rear end. It has an LT1 engine, not an LT4.
