New Audi S6 coated with 22PLE by Greg Gellas

Greg Gellas

I'm Greg :)
After being contacted to do a new S6 for 22PLE and a 1 step correction, we finally got a mutual date with Lee Berbs, the gentleman who installs all the clear bra for my clients. Using Xpel Ultimate and having many years experience, I wouldn't use someone who does lesser work than I do, he is a true artist at his craft. You will see, or rather not see, the clear bra. :)

I began with the wheels. I do them first so I am not kneeling down in puddles of water; also I strategically pick which ones to do first so water run off is down hill. Using Sonax Full Effect, Tuff Shine Tire Cleaner, and various brushes, the wheels were cleaned up. I moved on to washing, I used a 50/50 dawn and Chemical guys wash and clear solution to remove any wax that the dealership may have put on. All paint got an iron-x application, and then was decontaminated with a nanoskin autoscrub wash mitt.

Now that we are down to just paint we can see the damage that was done. Remember this car only has 400 miles on it and has never been washed by its owner. Swirls and scratches can be seen throughout the paint

After numerous paint thickness readings, and a test panel, I decided on using a Rupes yellow pad paired with Sonax Perfect finish. It got the most correction, while still leaving a glowing finish.

Here you can really see how much damage there was to the paint on this new S6.

After a single polishing step. Is it perfect, NO, I got as much correction as I could with a 1 step correction. Some of the much deeper scratches were left, all of the light swirls were removed, and I still probably got a 90% correction rate.

Some of the "lighter" scratches.

I was able to remove them fully.

Switching to a 3" pad on my Griots machine, I ensure ever inch got corrected. It is just as important as the hood; also you don’t want any polish on the trim make sure to tape off.

Taping trim and sharp edges is very fast, and tape is cheap compared to replacing trim, tape everything you can :) Not to mention, the residue that can be left behind.

After another bath then an IPA wipe down, to ensure all polishing oils were removed, I moved on to the application of 22PLE.

The wheels, were removed and decontaminated, which was needed even after 400 miles, then coated with 22PLE Wheel Coating

Tires were coated with tuff shine tire clear coat. A really nice semi-permanent tire dressing that leaves a great Matte finish.

Exhaust tips were also quite dirty, and needed some attention.

They were polished with Optimum metal polish. I also used a foam detailing stick to ensure in between were polished.

After cleaning I coated them with 22PLE.

All gaskets got the Einszett Gummi Pflege Rubber Care Stick. Remember; don't just do one side of the gaskets do both the doors and the jambs.

The interior got a light wipe using Einszett Cockpit Premium.

What did I end up with? Extremely glossy paint, which is now protected from the elements.

You learn something new all the time. Id like to find out more about this brand.

22PLE is a nice coating. Really easy to apply, and great gloss. It is not permanent.
