New Addition to the Mike Garage Mahal

Thanks Audios S6.

I see you got the small PC pancake compressor, how is it and what do you use it for? Thinking about getting one for interior air purging .

I have 2 Porter Cable Pancake Compressors - bought on consecutive Black Fridays at Home Depot. (Same time I pick up the Werner platforms.) One is 4.5 gal and the other 6 but both were $99 IIRC. The smaller one the year before the bigger. That is the way my luck rolls.

I bought them for compressed air for interiors and for blowing out MF pads while polishing (AKA residue control - thanks KB ). I also apply Permanon with it and a Harbor Freight 4 oz. Adjustable Detail Air Spray Gun (Item #92126). Having 2 is sometimes useful if my buddy MugelloM is helping out. Don't cross streams as often that way.

Thanks Steve.

While I'm at it, here is some other DIY lighting I recently did. Costco has/had LED Shop Lights on coupon so bought a couple. Mounted on the remains of the shelf that was obsoleted by the garage remodel (also where the bracket rear legs came from - waste not, want not). Use to add general light for when working on the sides/front of cars. "Unbreakable" (inadvertently tested that) and 3700 Lumens each. A little heavy because of the MDF shelf but mobile. Even got the drilling right on the first try. ;)

Going all LED (we have really hot summers here in Central TX), put LED bulbs in these cheapie clip on lights: 100W replacement, 60W replacement and 100W Spot. Have a couple of more bulbs to try.

Probably more lighting to come.

Great point on all leds. With this lack of winter its gonna be a hot central texas summer indeed.

I never check for coupons or circulars but I'm going to get a sunday paper right now, haha. No costco near me though. Sams, lowes and home depot will have to do.

After seeing your goods purchased on sale I know I can find something eventually around here as well.

Pics please.

This is one option for mounting to my cart. The flares on each end help guide the cord. I'd prefer to have the polisher on the outside, but I also don't want the pad touching anything, so I'm struggling with the best solution.

The wall mount is similar to the OP, but I'm struggling with resisting all that mass rotating and having something that is easily assembled.

Thanks Harry.

You could put some casters on that shelf light to make it easier to move.

Thought about that. We'll see. It isn't all that heavy really. Next mod will likely be a loop or hole to aid in storing when not in use.

Audios S6 - have you thought about looping some strong, lightweight string (unwaxed dental floss, maybe, or a leather strip might be cool) where the stick/bail handle goes? (Bolts and washers, obviously.) Make kind of a short, flexible bail handle and hang it from that on a hook on your cart? My rotaries lie on their back in a drawer as I don't use them all that much any more.

I had thought about string or wire, both seemed like they would eventually break and Murphy tells me it would be at the most inopportune time. I like the leather strap idea though, far more durable and rigid. Don't worry, I'll give you full credit if it doesn't work, and take all credit if it does work.

I actually don't use my rotary much either, if you couldn't tell by the pristine condition, but it has the thickest cord and it's the heaviest, so that's what I made the cuts for.

I like the leather idea, too, and I can't be the only one with thin, older belts that don't fit anymore. ;) Xacto and quarter inch drill bit should do it.

The Hitachi in my drawer has a bail handle on it so wouldn't need and the Metabo has a completely different form factor otherwise I might try it. May try it anyway.

OK, tried it. Found an old belt that no longer fits, cut it, drilled appropriate sized holes and mounted. Would definitely work - assuming the hook on the cart was stout enough.

Just a couple of ideas that might allow for a little easier hanging...

If you put a grommet through the holes, it would make that last longer. Also, the grommet would allow for a small rod to be inserted over the bolt, with an appropriately sized washer on each side, that would allow the handle/hanger to pivot. So, if you hang it from the strap it would actually hang below the hook and (at least in my mind) make it hang a letter better. You could also try to find some type of loop or quick connect fastener that could bolt into the holes and allow the strap to be more easily removed. I don't know how well that would work though since I'd imagine they'd get in the way while actually using the tool.

Would the leather strap interfere with use?

Shouldn't - using the same mounting locations as the stick/bail handle, in this case, even using the same mounting hardware. Note - could use the stick handle on one side if that is your preferred hand positioning. (Bail handle would mean you don't need - just hang from the handle.) I made this one long enough to go forward for hand positioning directly on top. I have it affixed tightly enough to not move.

Great ideas. I'm sure some entrepreneurial person is taking note for a new detailing product. ;)

Maybe I should give it a go. There's a leather shop next door to the Chinese place I'm at (and at at least 3-4 times a week). Lol

Have something new I can do with them: my BOSS G10 arrived yesterday from ACC. Talk about an awesome feeling tool! Just oozes quality. Only spun a pad so far but WOW! So smooth and powerful (torque) feeling. Excited to use it this weekend.

Sorta taking it back OT, but i did finally finish a polisher mount for the wall. Thanks
for the inspiration Mike.

Total cost $0, since I had everything lying around. Total time, about 30 minutes.

Angled 2x4 scraps that I pre-drilled at an angle for deck screws. Square side goes against wall framing, angled side mounts to MDF with cut outs for polishers
