Hi everyone,

My husband doesn't know i signed on here.

I would like to surprise him. As we all know fathers day is rapidly approaching. I would like to stock his new garage (we just built a house). My intentions are to start from ground zero. All that I know that he has is the power waxing machine Porto Cable or something like that.

Can you suggest the following:

Microfibers how many of each

Waxes

Polishes

etc

thanks!

OMG! Let me know if you ever divorce him.

(Disclaimer to my wife: Just kidding Honey, I love you, and only you.)

Well, if he has the Porter Cable already, then chances are that he also has some other stuff (usually you graduate up to the PC after you've acquired other stuff). So first find out what else he already has.

If all else fails, every Autopian could use more microfibers. There are many online stores that have high quality MF's that any good husband would appreciate.

my problem is that i don't kwow what the stuff he has is. Plus it's all old. My plan is to throw all the old looking stuff away and surprise him. Come on "Guys"

We need more information. What type of car is it that he owns? What colour? Is it single stage or a clear coat? What products does he normally purchase? What type of budget do you have? What type of experience does he have?

Ok guys, this is probably my last post as I have to take him to dinner to keep him away.

we have a moroccean red peral acura tl type s and a blue(ish) hyundai santa fe.

products, he's open to anything. I know he hates when the stuff he uses leaves white marks on the rubber.

budget . . . $500 or so?

Thanks!

PakShak 16x16 ultra plush towels are awesome to have. I highly recommend those. Id get a 12 pack for $48.

I like pakshak towels an waffle weave's great people to deal with very helpful

Get a sampler-size of Meguiar's new D151 Paint Reconditioning Cream from Auto Detailing Solutions. It's supposed to be great stuff, and is perfect for use with the PC. Also pick up some pads for the PC.

You can't lose with quality microfibers. I'd get maybe a dozen or so of those, 16x16. I like the ones from Detailer's Domain. These are very popular as well. Also, a few waffle-weave drying towels.

Polishes and waxes...there are simply a lot of options. The Menzerna line of polishes nearly always produce a great finish. 106FF and SIP (Super Intensive Polish) are a great pair for many jobs. Although, the regular IP (Intensive Polish) may be good to have in place of SIP because Honda/Acura paint is known to be rather soft.

If he doesn't have pads for his Porter Cable, I would suggest Lake Country 5.5" and 4" CCS pads. Colors? Orange, white, and black/grey--2-3 of each. Backing plates are also needed if he doesn't have them.

Waxes/sealants:

Durable past wax: Collinite 476S

Semi-high end paste wax: P21S 100% Carnauba--I also recommend P21S wheel gel cleaner

-Pinnacle Souveran

ClearKote Vanilla Moose is nice also. I think durability is good too.

sealants: There are several choices. Wolfgang, Poorboy's EX-P, Zaino, 1Z (einszett Glanz Wax), Meguire's #21...

I like using the small yellow applicators for paste wax and a larger Lake Country pad for sealants, something like this or this.

I would give him a gift certificate for an online seller like Autogeek, etc. AG carries many different brands. Like most people, detailing stuff is a personal choice.

Wow, great idea.

I would buy some product AND get a gift cert. Get a bunch of quality microfibers (about a dozen) because you can't go wrong there and maybe get him some quick detailer like FK 425 or Optimum's and maybe one quality wax that would work well for any car/color like P21S 100% or Chemical Guys 50/50. Let him have the joy of picking out the rest (this is often extremely fun for us!).

Hope it goes well and I hope when I get married to my fiance she can be that encouraging and understanding of car care.

Ok guys. I'm back.

Can you please link me to the exact microfibers that I need to get.

Apparently their are different kinds for different uses. I want the full setup for him.

windows, interior

wax, dry, etc etc etc.

I suppose it is too much to dare think that you can cook too!!

Good Luck - the gift card was a great idea - too many products - too many ideas.

I would go with a gift cert .... or if you want to get him products just contact Phil at DetailersDomain and tell him to put together a nice fathers day package for $500. Porter cable polisher, pads, polish, car wash, microfiber towels he will do it right. You will get 50 million diff answers here...LOL

I could make you a very long list, however I can safely say a gift certificate is the best thing. Get one for a couple places, like ADS, AG, TOTL

ADS, rick is great...not to mention ADS has cases of MF for $69.95 (100 to a case), and the are great quality, they were I bought 2 cases earlier this year and they are wonderful....there are better quality ones, but they pass the CD test and the edges dont curl after being washed....

AG, they run free shipping over 95$

TOTL they have grape dressing....which imho is great!

Your best one stop shop for everything detailing is probably going to be AUTOGEEK. I've ordered from them in the past and they've always done well by me. That might be a place to consider a gift certificate, because he's sure to find brands he likes there.

This is maybe the best idea. Microfibers + some wax and let him get what he likes.

Detailer's Domain "Uber" Microfiber Towels 16x16 Red - wax and polish removal. They can work for the interior as well but I like to save them for paintwork.

Detailer's Domain "Uber" All Purpose Microfiber Towels 16x16 - maybe these for the interior...I have not used them before though.

Drying:

Detailer's Domain "Uber" Jumbo Waffle Weave Drying Towel Red -

Danase Waffle Weave Drying Towel
