Need to ease customer's fear

Eric yes I did close him , I do the car the first time in March. It will be a hand polish job which he is paying more for. Maybe in time I can get him to allow me to use the machine. He'll probally be trading soon any way so the next one will be a clean slate , either a GT2 or Cayenne.:D

Detailbarn,

Ahh, yes the infamous GT2. Words alone cannot express the immense joy and pleasure one gets from being in the cockpit of one of those babies.

Detailing one is also awesome. One of my clients has one (reminder to myself: get those pics on your site) and he was kinda skittish about getting it because he hated the swirls that he knew would be on it at delivery. So I told him to tell the dealer and those taking delivery NOT to touch it. So he told them that and it came ot him just washed. Nothing on the tires, nothing on the interior and no buffers on the paint. Pass this same advice on to your client.

His next fear was that I would put swirls in it by using a buffer. So I then had a chance to educate him on the difference between a high speed rotary and a random orbitol. He then felt more at ease and simple loved the results.

Happy Detailing.

Anthony

Anthony if I may ask how did you go about educating him , my guy is so stubborn about hand polishing only. It kills me because he frequents the car wash which isn't touchless. Thanks in advance for your input and congrats on the article.

Detailbarn,

Well it helped that his friend, who is so very anal about his M5, gave me the thumbs up because I had worked on his M5 with my buffer and he was well pleased.

What you need to do is demonstrate and I mean an actual physical live in your face demo of what can be done by hand and what can be done with a machine. I inform them that the buffer I use, lets say the PC, moves just like my hand does but it does it in a much uniform manner. While my hand may place more pressure in one area than another the machine provides smooth even pressure which ensures a finish that is consistent and uniform. The machine can also remove scratches that I would notbe able to remove by hand. By Hand I might be able to fill them only but with the machine I may be able to remove them.

That's the line of reasoning I would take.

For the car wash guys, well I tell them that the car washes are designed to get cars, any type of car, clean. This means a mini-van, sedan, hunting trucks and also construction trucks. I then draw for them a vivid image of their Porsche going thru the car wash right after a mud caked, sand encrusted construction truck and then imagine that a great deal of that mud and sand is still whirling around in the brushes or embedded in the cloths.

This usually catches their attention. It is no lie to say that the folks who design, own and operate these car washes care more about getting the cars clean than marring up the finish. So the chemicals they use are strong and they figure if they can get a muddy truck somewhat clean than they should be able to get anything clean.

A car wash in California one time got sued by a few car owners when a work truck went through and had its antenna ripped off by the center cleaning brush. The antenna got caught in the rotating brush and the next 3 cars came out with a stripe down the hood where the paint had been "whipped" right off!

If you were my personal pilot and I asked you not to fly at night because it made me nervous, I would danged well expect you to respect my wishes. If not, I most certainly wouldn't use your services again. And I would tell all my friends that my wishes were ignored.

I fly for an airline so I guess it's a bit different than being a personal pilot. I guess you could always choose another airline :)

(sorry to hijack this thread but this did require a comment)
