Need Suggestions

I have a 2012 Infinity with gun metallic finish. The paint is in good condition and the car is kept in the garage when not driven. I am retired and have the time to detail the car when necessary. The car was waxed by the dealer when I got it sever months ago and it still beads water very good. I don't see any swirls or imperfections in the finish, but I would like to get the very best shine and protection posssible.

I have a PC 7424, which I have never used, along with 3 white, and 3 black foam pads. I also have some Opti G-P-S and Opti Hyper Polish.

My plan is to wash and clay the car, then use the G-P-S and Hyper Polish with the DA. Is there anything else to do with the paint finish, or other products that might be better?

Congratulations on a beautiful car, and welcome to this awesome Forum ! Is Gun Metallic a Silver or Gray color ??

I have used a lot of Optimum Hyper Polish and find it to be one of the better polishing compounds out there. I love that it corrects until you decide to stop and it finishes really nice with no dusting.

The G-P-S product is a one-step product that corrects a little, leaves a glaze on the surface and also a sealer to keep the protection on the paint for awhile.

If you feel you need to use both products, then you should use the Hyper Polish first, and then the G-P-S last.

Or better still, use the G-P-S only and it should take care of your really new paint.

Look at it carefully and decide which way you want to go. What size are your pads ??

If I was using these products on your car and had your tools and supplies to use, I would first try out the G-P-S product with the white pad and see if it made enough difference in the finish to satisfy my criteria, and if so, finish the entire car this way.

I would want the Porter Cable going full speed on the paint to give you as much pad rotation as possible, which will help correct the paint quicker and better.

I would call the color a Gray Metallic which is listed as Gun Metallic on Dr. Colorchip and Silver on the title. I have the 5.5 backerplate with 6.5" pads. I'll try your suggestion on the G-P-S for my first try. So I don't need to use any other sealer or wax after the G-P-S?

No problem on the color name. Glad you know about Dr. Colorchip - been using their products for years and always had great success...

No, you dont have to put anything else on the car after using G-P-S...

You can if you want to, but what goes on may not stick as long as the original product which was designed to be a complete system in the product.

See how it looks after you do the work and decide then...

A wax will always make the finish look better because of the oils and waxy stuff, but typically, a wax attracts dirt/dust easier because of its chemical make up..
And it wont be on the car long before it goes away...

What are you looking for short and long-term; that will help you determine what to do to the paintwork..

Gloss, protection, durability, a little of each, etc...
