Need some advice

Father bought a new Mercedes, I know people say they have good engineering but they can sure do some impractical things. When you open the doors on the car there is a felt like bead, probably 3/4 in. wide going around the door on the inside, guess it helps seal wind. The problem with this is every single person drags thier feet across it and it stays dirty. My father wears braces on his legs and he really can't help hitting this thing. It is constantly dirty and you can constantly clean it and it will just get dirty again and again and again. I had bought some 3M film from Griots garage that I had put on the outside on the painted area of the door so his braces would not chip the paint when he gets out. This 3M stuff really gets a bite and it is really made for painted surfaces, but thinking of cutting a piece to width and putting it on the material. Just wanted some opinions on things I might try or something. IT will have to fit close as when the door shuts it will seal against this piece. I guess those germans don't have dirty shoes.

Thanks in advance

Hello jfoster,

I deal with this very same problem in many of my Mercedes clients. My remedey is to use my steam cleaner to remove the dirt and stains. Usually a spritz or two of 303's upholstery cleaner aids in the cleaning.

After this I spray it with 303's Fabric Protector. This helps in keeping it stain resistant and easier to clean when it gets dirty.

The clear tape idea might help but I am not sure how it will do as far as "sticking" goes.

Hope this helps,

Anthony
