Need some advice bad :)

Which dealership?

Did you talk to the body shop manager to discuss your issues.

If they don;' rinse/wash off the buffing compounds, they can't see if they did the right buff job

Tell them no wash and tape off the balance of the hood

Lawley here in Sierra Vista. I didn't mean don't wash the bumper, I meant the rest of the car. Can I tape off the hood 3 weeks after it has been recleared?

You *should* be able to tape the repainted areas, just don't leave the tape on there long and don't park it in the sun with the tape on. But I'd only tape it as a last resort if you just can't trust them to not mess things up.

I'd take the car to them *clean* (with no tape) and have them mount the bumpercover with strict instructions to *NOT* mess up the adjacent panels. If I felt it necessary, I'd stand there and watch/direct them (yeah, I've done such stuff before, right under the "customers not permitted.." sign).

If the freshly panted bumpercover needs polished, DIY or have somebody you trust do it. Don't let them do it, they don't know how to do it right and you're just asking for problems if you let them try.

Having had a *LOT* of bumpercovers reshot over the years (and I don't mean just twenty of 'em ;) ), it oughta look pretty OK without compounding/polishing unless they really botched up the paintjob. Last time they reshot the bumpercover of my wife's A8 they didn't buff it and it looked good enough until I got around to doing it. And yeah, they mounted that bumpercover without messing up the rest of the car.
