Need major help with rock chips

First off let me say that I take pride in keeping my car clean and swirl free, and with it being my daily driver that makes it more of a challenge. The car is a phantom black metallic 04 GTO with 20XXX miles, and the paint was 99 % defect free until yesterday.



I am wanting to get some paint mixed that would match the factory color and put in a spray can. I am thinking about making a few light passes over the affected areas of the car with the intent of filling in these little chips. Then after the paint has dried I am wanting to wetsand the area. I am hoping that when I wetsand I can remove the layer of paint on the clearcoat and take it back down to the clearcoat, but since the other areas where the chips were will be lower, the paint will remain.



If this does not work I will have to have the areas repainted anyway, so I guess it is worth a try.



Has anyone tried of heard of doing this before?

slammin86- Sorry to hear about that, but I suppose that's what happens when you actually take a car out and have fun with it



IMO you oughta pay a pro to do it. I can't possibly imagine your planned course of action working out at all, sorry. And there's no way I'd mess with a black car that's in otherwise great shape. I'd put your efforts into finding a good paint shop (not easy). The sooner you get it done right the sooner the paint will finish curing and you can start waxing/sealing.

NO way around, you paint it, eventually more chips will occur. Best thing to do is drive cautiously, stay away from trucks, dont tailgate, and keep your car waxed.

There was a thread recently about a product called Touchup 123 I'm not sure how well it works, but I think a few Autopians will be trying it out soon. It sounds promising and I hope it is good as I also have alot of rock chips on the front of my truck that need repair.

And if you get it repainted, you may want to consider a clear bra system. You can even use one of these now. I'm very sorry I didn't spend the money for a whole system when I first got my car but I reckon I'll just live with the mess now.

I agree with the others. Don't mess with all of those chips yourself.
