I have an 02 VW jetta that has some swirls and fine scratches. The overall paint condition is pretty good. Im using a PC7424 and havent been getting good results with the 83 with an LC orange. Ive dont several passes and im just not seeing any improvement. Ive done the scratch test so im almost sure these should come out. I was going to try Menzera products but money is tight and Id rather not waste what I have. Im wondering if anyone can help. Maybe suggest a differnt pad or Megs. product to use before the 83. Thanks

You could try stepping it up to a yellow pad with your #83. Or just try more pressure with the orange and #83. VW paint isn't easy as it's especially hard, as your realizing I'm sure..heh

With the PC, you are probably going to have to step up to Meguiars #105. Try it first with a polishing pad before a cutting pad since it is a lot more aggressive than #83.

before you go crazy with new products

I have a few questions

have you used the PC to remove defects before?

how fast are you moving the PC?

what speed?

what size pads?

I just bought the PC last year. Ive watched serveral videos and spent about 2 days on my car trying to remove the defects with not much luck.

I tryed all variations moving it really slow then faster etc. Ive even tryed about 3-4 passes and still nothing. I use an LC 5in orange on speed 5-6 with the #83

As someone who used #83 with an LC 6.5" orange pad via PC speed 6 on my '01 GTI, I'll just say that combo did an ok job, but didn't correct everything. I resorted to using SIP with 4" pads with a good amount of pressure against the paint surface running at about 1" / sec (2 passes per panel). That did the job nicely. I didn't even step down to 106ff.

Now that I have a rotary (Makita), I wish I could start all over again with my previous work undone just so I could see the difference.

ok so I think atleast part of the problem has nothing to do with the products

tape off a 12" X 12" area and learn to use the PC

don't use anything less then speed 6 for defect removal

and only move about 1" per second

and work the polish back and forth, up and down

they let us know how the 12" X 12" test spot looks and we will go from there

best of luck
