Hey guys,

Working on a Black Corvette right now. I have it in my garage. Today I got out there and started with Danase Swirl Abolisher III and managed to burn out my Sears Rotary Polisher.

I have been doing alot more cars lately and I think its finally time I step up to a more fitting tool. I am in a bind right now because I need to get this car done quick. I am thinking of purchasing a Makita Polisher. I was wondering how you Autopian's feel about that particular machine, and if you could recommend a reputable and also cheap source I could order one from quick!!

Thanks,

Dan

I just got a Dewalt DW849 through one of my local pro product distributors. The brushes were going on my PC 7428 so I thought I'd pick up another rotary before the 7428 was completely dead. Lucky for me, there is a place nearby that does repairs on Porter Cable products so I can get the 7428 fixed and use it as a back-up.

The Dewalt definitely has a more "precision" feel to it than the 7428.

Pulled the trigger today.... Now I just have to wait for it to arrive in the mail....

Thanks for the quick responses,

Dan

I just picked up a makita brand new in the box on ebay for $122+$17 shipping. delivered to me for less than $140! can't beat that.

if you have time, hawk ebay until you catch a deal that suits you.

Just bought two of them at Menards. Paid 159.00 each but there was no shipping and could walk out with it right away. Have had one now for quite some time and really enjoy it. They seem to last forever. Couldn't pass up the deal.

I have used the Dewalt before on numerous occasions. To me they seemed kind of heavy, but an equally good polisher. IF I remember right, it had a sensitive trigger that I enjoyed. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

You will love it if you have been using an old sears rotary.

Yes, they are very quite!!!

Used the NEW Makita on a C4 Corvette.... the click and brag section has some pictures. What a world of difference. I love this machine. You do need to be careful though because if your not watcing you can take the clear right down to the paint. Once I got the hang of it though it made the job go 100X faster, and the car looked 100X better. I am so glad I bought this machine; can't wait to do the next car next week.
