Need help to look for a good sealant for a white car

Opti-seal is very easy to apply. Wipe on Walk away (WOWA). Never used FK before, so I can't comment.

My suggestion is to find a product that interests you and just give it a try. At least that has always been the fun part for me, your experience may differ :2thumbs:

I have checked with the dealer regarding the paint protector that I have on my car. I was told that it is a sealant and the product is called "proseal". Anyone heard of this product?

Here is my take n the things you mentioned.

FK1000P-is a great wax , not trim friendly at all . BUT it give a thick looking coat. It is durable and is a clean wax/sealant . By that I mean it won't have a color tint to it like some waxes do.

Opti-seal- This is whats on my bright silver Vette . It looks great and added another coat to it. Putting a coat of OCW will make it look wetter. It also does not tint , at least i can't tell just looks wetter. I don't have a lot of faith in the durability but works great on a show car or a car that maintained regularly. I wound not use it on my Tahoe in winter since Im sure the road salt or a touch less car was removes it.

Megs #16- all I can say is a great looking , durable wax and does not dry white in the cracks . One of my favorites.

Collnite stuff _ all around great waxes , very durable , good looks . The 845 is not friendly to black , but great on my wires silver car and the durability is rock solid.

OK decided to do a quick test . Washed trunk of Vette with ONR . I taped into 3 sections.

1-Megs #16

2-Collnite #476

3-FK1000p

I'll keep you posted on depth , thickness look , wetness ect..... this was put on top of OPT OS . I have not tried these 3 on the Vette yet so I'll see what they look like. Im leaving it to cure right now. This post peaked my interest :) keep a posted.

Fallguy- Eh, for some reason FK1000P seems to need two coats for me, whereas doing two of the others has a less dramatic effect.

Ya know how we say to keep FK1000P off trim? I experimented on the Yukon I used to have and actuall did OK FK1000Ping it's black plastic exterior trim. Yep, even the textured stuff. Sure gotta do it right though, a bit too much or a bit too slow on the W-O-W-O and you sure do get the dreaded staining. Do it right (or maybe just "get lucky"!) and it works great. Ditto for 476S, but I've never had it work OK with M16.

It seems that the feedback regarding the durability for Opti Seal is not that good. Anyway, I am looking for an easy sealant to apply for my car without spending too much time, so I guess the opti seal is still a better choice for me.

I assume if I apply 2 coats of opti seal should increase the durability.

Be aware that Optimum released a new version of Opti-Seal around a month or two ago, which they claim looks better and is more durable - so the durability reports you're getting might not be applicable if you're getting a new bottle.

Looks better, more durable and slicker. Been using it since late February, holds up very well here.

I have completed my tests as listed above and I have to give the better look ( for my bright silver car) to the OS and for a more fluid look I would top with OCW , but thats my little experiment for what its worth.

I can clearly see the difference in the in the clarity and flakes and not being muted. Looks extremely clean !!

To the orig poster I would recommend taking off the dealer installed stuff and do a good prep first.

I washed w Dawn

Clayed

Washed w Dawn

1 coat of GPS and 2 coats of OS. = very happy !!!

Fallguy, how much dawn do you use in a two gal. bucket to strip the existing wax or sealant? Is one ounce of dawn per gallon about right?

Im not sure because i used the foaming type but did mix it pretty heavy. Dawn is cheap and if u use to much , no big deal. Just get a good buck with a lot of suds and hot softened water. Make sure you rinse completely .

Thanks, will do.

shortspark- I'd be most worried about mixing it strong enough to do the desired stripping. Some LSPs withstand Dawn washes quite well.

Yes, that was my concern. I've heard of using dawn but never knew how much was necessary to do the job without over doing it. I use Duragloss sealants and my Mercedes ml350 (new in May) is in perfect paint condition and will stay that way because it is a garage queen. In fact, it has never seen a drop of rain!! When the fall detail time comes I may not strip at all and just wash, clay if necessary, then continue to pile on the Duragloss polish and sealants once or twice a year and top with Aquawax after each wash. Since I have decided to use the same products (or at least the same family of products), I guess there is no need to use dawn at all.
