I was parking in a very tight space and this happened:

Is this repairable? If so, how well close can it be to perfect if not perfect? How much is it going to cost?

100% Insurance claimable. You cannot fix this w/o refinishing it. They should only need to repair/refinish both doors.

But it was my mistake. And don't I have to get it painted by like a body shop or something? If insurance pays for it, won't my monthly payment increase as well?

Insurance pays for mistakes. Get some quotes from a few different body shops to see if making a claim is worthwhile. Don't rig it with touch up paint.

What do I ask the body shops for exactly?

I imagine they are going to mention touch up paint which you advise against. What are the alternatives I should look for?

They will want to repaint it, why would they recommend something that would make them less money and in the end, not make you happy? Since it is metallic paint, they will want to repaint the damaged areas and probably the panels next to them as well to get a better match.

I had a similar incident while parking in a tight spot also. And the same damage to the side mirror plus at the door panel. The only difference is that my damage only took the paint out but still leaving the gray primer paint. Still wondering if this one can be done via polishing/touch up paint or full repaint of the damaged panel itself which will cost some more. T__T

Just got to several body shops and get quotes. Then see what your deductible is. If the lowest quote is more than your deductible, call you insurance company. If it's less, just pay out of your pocket and don't call them. Really pretty simple.

And yes, your full coverage insurance pays for your mistakes.

I agree with David. Get some estimates and decide if it's worth the insurance claim when you take in account your deductible or if it's better to pay out of pocket. Make sure you go to reputable shops to and not some low-ball hack shop. I'd guess $700-1000 based on pics.

Weigh the amount of the repair in comparison to the rate increase you *might* get charged(cumulatively) over the next few years. It might be better to bite the bullet and pay $1200 out of pocket to avoid making a claim if your rates go up $500 each year for the next 3-4 years.

You can actually call your insurance company and find out what the lower limit is for a rate increase--I recently had some body work done which resulted in an $800 charge to the insurance company after the deductable was met and was concerned with a rate increase--I was informed that my insurance company does not count it until it exceeds $1,350--each company may be different though.

Everyone has a level of tolerance when it comes to car care. The advice provided pretty much summarizes your options. I have found that body shops will work with you when you are paying out of pocket. They want your business.

I would simply walk into body shops and say hey, I've only got 500.00 to spend. Can you do it for that?

Just see what they say.
