Need Expensive Microfiber Towels

You are getting stains on your paint towels? What else are you using them for? I've got towels I've been using for a very long time and there aren't any stains on them...

Eh, I get all sorts of stains on my "paint" MFs, which are sometimes bad enough to get 'em demoted to non-critical duty. Just rubbing against some kinds of plastic/rubber trim will do it, black transfer that doesn't always come out in the wash.

But yeah, my MFs last a *LONG* time. While some might get demoted as mentioned above, the only real "retirement factor" is the eventual wear that will diminish the nap. And then those are still OK for some jobs that you wouldn't want to subject "good" towels to. I still have some of my very first MFs from the 1990s...threadbare and stained, but still useful.

I've used a lot of microfibers and I've pretty much switched all my stuff over to microfibertech.com's towels in various grades for different jobs (medium 300gsm for compound/polish removal and interior, 360gsm for sealant removal, final wipedown, 530gsm for QD, glass, etc) and I've found that they do a good job picking their suppliers for their material and they have excellent customer service.

Never heard anyone mention cobra towels, are they any good???

Besides the guys that answered, what are the recommended GSMs for each step? I have some nice 530s I was planning to try for polish/sealant removal, good/bad idea?

You can use an ultra plush (500+gsm) for whatever, but I feel like its sort of a waste for sealant, and they don't "bite" enough for me for polish removal. I usually use a normal "medium" nap (300gsm) towel for polish removal and the 360gsm "plush" towels for sealant/wax removal or final wipedown. I reserve the ultra plush type towels for QD or waterless wash, that's where they really shine I think because of the high nap leaving a place for dirt to migrate to.

Some sorta-random thoughts follow:

- Good MFs are good MFs regardless of which vendor you get 'em from

- That said, some vendors are simply *zero issue*...people like PakShak

- Some MicrofiberTech WWs I have are simply *SUPERB*, but I bought those many years ago and things can change

- Some people like more/less plush MFs for certain tasks (e.g., buffing off sealant residue) and it's strictly personal preference

- Some Cobras aren't all that great but others are perfectly fine; I doubt I'd reach for those if doing something utterly critical

Landcruiser- Yeah, I kinda figured ;) And yeah, the short-answer in MFs is "Pakshak" for me too :xyxthumbs

With ONR I see people saying to use microfibers, is there a reason not to use a microfiber mitt?! Or can u use the mitt to wash and the towel to wipe off? I was planning on doing it like a regular was tho, mitt to wash and WAffle weave to dry. Is this ok? I've never done a no rinse wash yet...

MF is MF, whether in the form of a towel, or a mitt, or a covered sponge. Just note that a nice, thick MF with long nap is more likely to be safer than a thin, short one.

Perhaps people seem to prefer sheepskin mitts because MF can more readily trap abrasive stuff. But if you're using MF anyhow I don't see any problem with the mitts. I like to fill mitts with the wash solution..as it seeps out it provides additional flushing and lubrication.

Don't switch to the WW until things are *CLEAN* as it won't offer the cushioning/etc.

One reason for me is the MF towels have 8 clean sides to use per towel where a mitt only has 2. I prefer to use a clean surface for each panel when doing an ONR wash on a dirtier car. Typically that means about 3 towels per car. If it's just light dust I will typically use a mitt.

agreed.. most all the cobras i've owned have linted....

Just looked at the pakshaks and they seem to have less of a selection, I'll pick some up anyway. I bought a handful of the cobra plush 530s. Hoping they serve me well. Also have 2 supreme guzzler WW and 2 Sonus der wonder drying towels, haven't tries those yet but got a great deal on them so taking a chance.

Im surprised no mention of Poorboys towels have been made, their DMT's are top notch. Silk banded and very dense.

Do u know what the weight (g/m2) and composition (80/20) of the DMT towels are?

Which towels do u guys get from pakshak for wax and polish removal?! And which ones do u guys use from the other vendors as well. A lot of then don't give the gsm's and I know mid 300s are usually better for

This job

I generally just use their Ultra-plush ones, but that's just me. Plenty of people prefer the lighter Ultra-Soft ones which are a bit lighter and have somewhat shorter nap.

I sometimes use low-nap/suede style MFs for buffing off LSPs, so I can go both ways on this and IME it's not like either is "better" or "worse", they're just different.

Eh, I've never found the whole MF topic as interesting as some people do; I don't give much thought to it and that's never caused me any problems. I got by just fine for years with MFs from YoSteve and the original Miracle Towels, and the somewhat less wonderful Cobras.

I just got an e-mail from microfibetech that the group buy is still on. So far, I'm quite impressed with them ( no surprise)

The new Edgeless Silver Surfer will remove waxes and polish with ease.
