Need advice working on 2010 jet black bmw

So im about to work on a 2010 jet black beemer, ive read the clear is on the hard side, worked a panel on the trunk with tangerine m105, m205 but cant get it defect free, i need some advice please, rotary or da, what products pads combo

thanks for the advice, no RIDs just swirls

You are probably looking at a minimum 2 step polish. I've done my share of black bmw's and a few of the newer bmw's with the harder clear.



Just suggestions. (Rotary)g

1. Menzerna IP & White polishing pad -> Menzerna 85rd & Finessing Pad

2. Menzerna SIP & White polisher pad -> Menzerna 106ff & Finessing Pad -> Menzerna 85rd & Finishing Pad.

3. M105 & White polishing pad -> SIP & White Polishing Pad -> PO85rd or PO106FF +Finessing Pad -> 3M Ultrafina & Finishing pad



In your situation with M105 and M205 you will need a third step either inbetween M105 and M205 or after M205 depending on the defects you are experiencing or you may just simply need to apply another round of M205 to remove marring induced by M105. If you're experiencing issues removing defects after M105 another option would be to have a middle polish such as SIP or IP then M205. If you are experiencing defects after M205 then you need a lighter finishing step to remove marring provided my M205 for example M205 with a finishing pad or PO85rd and a finishing pad.

Does that mean that you have seen the paint under halogens already or just in the sun?
 
well the car did have some RIDs i already took care of them, just the swirls left but theres plenty of them, owner said he's been taking his bmw and porsche to a soft cloth, the bmw's virtually brand new. anyway he gives me a call. i worked the trunk lid just quick but i couldnt get it swirl free, i was looking for the best way to attack the problem
 
I think BMW may have gone to a different finish process in 2009.



It seems paints from '09 onward are more resistant to scratching ( harder).

If it is Alpine white, Jet Black, or red, the paint is very soft (possibly even single stage?) These I think may be made in Spartanburg, SC.



All the metallic colors (the ones made in Germany) have a powder painted ceramiclear. Recently on my 2008 335i (arctic metallic) some ******* scratched the hell out of the trunklid (significant clearcoat scratches) in a parking lot. Man was I pissed.



The beginning paint thickness was 148-152 microns on the trunk lid. I got all the scratches out with Menzerna PO203S and a Yellow LC compounding pad (It was amazing...I was tempted to do only one step because it looked so good under the halogens) but then hit it with PO85RD.

I ended up down at 130 microns in that area but it is mirror smooth again. Took quite a bit of work and elbow grease.
