Need advice with detailing. Products?

I am looking at giving my car the ultimate detail but do not have the slightest clue as to which of the thousand companies to go with. I plan on purchasing a PC 7424 in the next couple days, im assuming that is the best polisher?



But I am more concerned as to which comanies products to go with?

Poorboys?

Pinnacle?

Wolfgang?

Meguires?

Sonus?

Etc etc etc???



I have small swirls that need to be removed but I want the car to shine as well as the shine to last. Recommendations???



Also what is a good spray on detailer? I heard great things about a product called S291 or something of that nature??

I'd recommend spending some time reading and searching through the forum to get better direction on your questions. Remember most importantly that the process is the important part, not the products. There are thousands of good products out there, and it really all boils down to personal preference.



You mention you want the shine to last, so I would recommend going with a sealant.



Wash

Claybar

Polish

Seal

Wax (optional)
 
Yeah i've done a lot of searching and it seemed like there are a ton of compaines and I had assumed they were relatively similar, it's an 04 and the car is garaged so claybar shouldn't be needed right? It just have small swirls in it from the towls that were previously used, it's a black car so everything is noticable, probably should have mentioned that earlier.

you don't get road contaminates from parking outside. You get them imbedded into your paint by driving. So garaged or not it still probably could benifit from a good claybar. And like ZaneO mentioned. It really dosen't matter a great deal with what piticuler product you use. It's all in the technique of how they are used. Give two people idenctical products and I bet you still get different results. If you want the "ultimate" detail done take it to a professional and sit there and watch what they do from start to finish. Best learning tool out there is hands on. But hands on from someone who knows what to do. Saying your going to learn how to properly detail from reading this site is like saying your going to become a black belt in karate from reading a how to book. Just realisitically not going to happen.
 
I would definatly clay bar. Even brand new cars off the semi have particles that attached during there travels to the dealerships.

Now some of that is redundant (i.e. epic wax, s100 wax, collinite wax). Like the guy said before it really comes down to preference and process, this is why I purchased a variety of like products. I have not read one bad thing about Menzerna from the people that have used it. Its a bit pricey but if its as good as people say it is I'm willing to put out the extra money.

You mentioned durability. If you're looking for a wax to put over the sealant that combines looks with durability, Collinite is worth considering. I have the same goal and I go with Klasse AIO + Collinite 845 IW. The stuff looks pretty good and wears like iron. I have S100 also and it looks good but doesn't have the durability.
 
Ok thanks guys, and I wanted to do it myself rather than takng it to a shop because I have heard that it is near to impossible the damage the paint with a PC. And I have used a buffer before and detailed my other vehicles many many times by hand. And by reading others advice as to "how to" polish a car I think it is something I can take on myself I just have no idea what products to go with but i'm thinking of going with the Wolfgang Swirl remover followed by the Wolfgang finishing glaze and a final coat of Collinite #915. Which should work pretty well?
 
Yea if you've actually done some detailing before then by all means go for it. The PC is a pretty safe tool to use. And even though it takes quite a bit longer to get the results you can definatly net yourself some pretty decent results using the PC.
 
Yeah i'm hoping for some good results I usully detail my car by hand but the PC should allow for a much better job, with the correct product of course

All these brand are great if used correctly!

I would pick up to simplify things:



wash - Megs NXT wash or GC

clay - Clay Magic (blue)

polish - #84, #80 or SSR2.5, SSR1

A few Meguiars 8006 polishing pads, and a few finishing pads

cleaner/pro - Klasse AIO

sealants - PB's EX , Megs NXT, or Four Star UPP

wax - S100 or #26

Spray detailer? I Have not tried many but - Megs Last Touch looks great!

don't forget a few good MF's towels for polish and wax removal.



Some of these things could be found locally. These are great products to start off with.
