Need a New Detailing Rigg, what should I get??

here's one 2004-2007 Saturn Vue

same MPG, engine & trans as the Odyssey(YES Honda 3.5 Vtec & 5 speed auto in a Saturn)

with less of a soccer mom look

Build it! Get yourself newer Tundra/Tacoma and do something like this:

It will help you save a few pennies in the process. You can get roof racks, hitches, push bars, etc. for it.

That one looks really nice but a bit small, I'm afraid it won't be enough room to haul all my stuff?

(I don't use a tank or generator or anything, just lots of equipment)

josh, you PW, or ONR mainly? use other peoples water for PWing?

reason I ask is that I use ONR only for my washes. I have a nissan Xterra and everything fits in perfectly...

16gallon tank for water

HWE

two bins for towels and products

one bag for machines and brushes/plates/extension cords

16gallon vacuum

and I can even arrange it all to where I can put in a pop-up canopy as well.

Gets about 16ish MPG, so not the best, but not low teens either

priced at about 22K give or take...only option they dont have that I really wanted was leather

Throw some rims on it and you might just be set. my model has the option to lay every seat perfectly flat except for the driver (including the passenger front even!)

I have to load it all up tomorrow, so if you want I can take a picture and show you. but your reason is the exact same reason I switched from a toyota tundra to a SUV - ability to lock everything up while shopping, away from the truck, and even keep things from flying out!

You'd be surprised. I've carried a 32" TV in a massive wood cabinet in ours before.

There's a guy on here, weekendwarrior, with an Element he uses for detailing.

Some examples:

i have been looking at Chevy Express 1500 and 2500 cargo vans.....they havd plenty of room but i hate the fact that in the miserable weather(snow) they stink....i am currently working out of my Trailblazer but i am out of room....the element is tempting....i may head over to the local honda dealer and check it out....

I don't PW or ONR, I do it the old fashion way with 2 buckets and the clients water and electric.

I've also thought some about the Nissan Pathfinder, I like the look and it's not too big but not too small.

I love the look of the new Highlander, but they're a bit pricy still.

Josh, I spend about a grand on this:

Not the truck....the roll top cover. :)

RETRAX truck bed cover pickup bed cover tonneau cover roll top cover

I almost bought one a while back but they were going to have to cut out a bunch of the bed liner to install it and so I said no.

The thing is also that my truck is just too big, there's some area's of town like University Park that the streets are packed both sides and I can barely get down them or the back alley's leading to the garages.

I need something a little smaller.

Probably find some nice ones in Scottsdale at the Barrett-Jackson auction. ;)

:spit:Are you guys kidding? Have you priced those lately??:spit:

I have a client with one and fully restored you'll look to drop anywhere between $70-$100K for one.:chuckle:

The Honda Element does have a crazy amount of space for something its size. It's unreal how much stuff you can fit in it when you remove the seats, you could even put in some racks to hold stuff. The suicide doors are nice for loading stuff too. But they are gutless, they can hardly get out of their own way empty, let alone loaded with a few hundred pounds of stuff. The Element SC at least looks cool.

I currently have a Vue Redline, it's decent on gas (like 25 mpg highway without an issue), pretty reasonable on space, looks decent (if awkward), and has a Honda V6 with plenty of go (its the same as in the Ridgeline/Pilot. It's also got dent resistant panels. It's definitely not as utilitarian as the Element though, the seats don't fold TOTALLY flat, they're at like a 10-15 degree angle. Just little things like that. They hold their value worse than normal GMs( I know! Who thought that was possible?!), so they can be found used for cheap. The new body style is worse though, no Honda V6, and its heavier and rather typical looking.

My dad has had a few Explorer Sport Tracs, he loves them. Get a hardcover for the bed, and you've got plenty of outside storage, if need be you can fold down the rear seats for even more space. He has the V8 powered one now and still manages 20something on the highway. Used they can be found for pennies on the dollar too.

Avalanches are pretty cool too. Overall, how much space do you really need? Do you utilize any sort of stacking for your stuff? If you've got some bins to stack stuff in you might be able to fit it all into a smaller size vehicle than you'd think. I know a few people who do mobile tech type stuff out of Scion xBs and they swear there's enough room in those to do almost any sort of job possible.

I know you said you don't like the XB. I have a 2008, and it works great for my business. I really do not like the look either, but you can not beat the practicality or the reliability. You also can't overlook almost 25mpg around town.
