Need a more aggressive polish than Sonus SFX-1...recommendations?

I have a Black 2010 Nissan Maxima, it has drying scratches and swirl marks which I haven't been able to correct for the life of me using Sonus SFX-1 and a yellow LC pad with my PC 7424XP. I'm making minimal progress and it's taking FOREVER. I worked the rear quarter panel for an hour and I'm still getting swirls in the sun.

I need a more aggressive polish and really don't know what to buy. I'm planning on ordering an orange LC pad though.

Thoughts?

I think the Yellow pad has more cutting power then the Orange so that would do you no good. I would get some 105/205 combo with maybe some Surbuf pads.

Good luck. I HATE black!!!!!!

I would advise not to use the yellow pad at all ESP with 105. For washed induced marring an orange pad and 205 should be pretty close. I can see an improvement with zpc and a white PAD_which is a significantly less aggressive combo.

I would use System One X3 on your most aggressive pad.

chdavis- What size pad are you using? And as noted, yellow cutting pads are generally not a good approach as there are much better alternatives these days.

You should be able to do *anything* that's remotely safe to do with a 4" orange LC pad and M105. You could up that a little bit with a 3.5-4" PFW pad or even a 4" SurBuf, but if you can't do what you want with those combos you simply shouldn't do it IMO.

I went ahead and ordered an LC CCS 6.5 Orange Pad, LC CCS 6.5 Yellow Pad, Meguire's 105 and 205, and Menzerna SIP and Super Finish 106.

Any other suggestions?

My suggestion is to call 'em back and change the order. That 6.5" pad is way too big IME/IMO.

Sorry, I wasn't explict enough previously...my "what size pad are you using?" was prompted by your lack of success, which I assumed was a result of using a large pad. IME anything larger than 4" is extremely ineffective via PC. You might do OK with a 5.5" pad, but I don't get good results with those either.

Wouldn't it take forever to correct the whole car with a 4" pad? Regardless I'll order some and the proper backing plate, in addition to my 6.5" pads.

Actually, I find it goes a whole lot *faster* because at least the little pads are accomplishing something :D

(BTW, in hindsight I don't like the way I worded my previous post, I didn't mean to sound so smart-aleck :o )

See what you think, I bet you'll find the diff between the two sizes pretty amazing.

Excellent. And no problem, I figured you didn't mean any harm.

I think I'll order 4" and 5.5" orange LC CCS pads. What other colors should I get? White and Red?

I have a 5" LC backing plate on my PC now, so I'll have to get a 3.5" LC BP and see if I can get by with using my 5.5 LC BP with my 6.5" pads. We shall see.

ditto. I thought itd take me forever using 4" pads, but actually, it is much faster and less frustrating.

Glad I didn't give offense.

I gotta admit I'm not up to speed on today's pad offerings. I think I'd lean towards the HydroTech pads myself because the very similar Griot's pads have worked so well for me. Yeah, if *I* were redoing my 4" pad inventory, the three HydroTechs would be right at the top of the list.

As it is I have a scad of 4" pads from Cyclo, some of which are apparently made by Edge. I also have some Sonus 4" ones, but I'm not crazy about the concave shape, preferring flat pads.
