Nasty 528i Touring (2000)

This was today's nasty detail, a 2000 dark blue 528i Touring which the owner (as they always do) said "wasn't in bad condition". To be fair to him the interior wasn't too bad at all considering they have two kids (both of whom play rugby), it's a light colour interior and it's five years old. The exterior, however, was a different matter. The bonnet had been resprayed (badly) and had all kinds of buffer swirls, holograms, polish squiggles and hazing both in and under the clear coat (I found this out when SSR3 didn't touch them!). The rest of the paint seemed to be a patchwork quilt made up by various chips and scratches guys over the years because it just wasn't consistent and the quality of these "repairs" was awful - in one of the rear passenger doors the bodyshop has painted over and sealed in grit about the same size as grape seeds - just shocking.

Obviously there was nothing I could do about the major problems, but I had a crack at the rest of it. It's still not perfect, but I could get it better if I had more than an afternoon to work on it.

Some befores - no sun really as it was still behind the house.

This at least gives you some idea what the hood was like - the rest of the car wasn't much better!

Afters - no sun as it was behind a tree on the other side of the street  The reflections in the bonnet are pretty awesome (although you can see some of the hazing under the clear coat in the second one down), even if I do say so myself (knowing full well it wouldn’t look that good in direct sunlight! :( )

Ben

Turned out very nicely, especially in light of what you had to work with. :)

I am stunned that the owners would accept such shoddy paint and bodywork though.
