Here's what I've read...

You must use the "special" lube
It's kinda like 5000-6000 sanding.
It cuts your clay time by 2/3rds

Clay pulls out and removes.
To me this is more like grinding.
 
I agree this is more like grinding but clay doesn't pull out as much as it shaves the tops off. You need Ironx to get in and dissolve the entire iron particle without cutting the paint to get to the contamination. Of course for organic contaminants like tar you need TarX or some other solvent that is safe, but clay does a good job of getting that stuff too.

"Special" lube.... I wonder if it's "special" in the same way as the Ultima 'gel' lube for the elastrofoam kit....

Given that it is like fine-grit sanding, it kinda necessitates polishing afterward, so it's less than ideal if you're just planning to do a wash/wax. And, like with machine sanding, there's the potential to create pigtails; depending on the size of the particulate(s) that cause it, correction of those could become a major problem.

If one wanted to use fine-grit sanding as an alternative to clay, a better choice would be to pick up 6000 grit MicroMesh and go at it by hand. I've played with that method myself and while it can be effective, I'm still a fan of clay.
 
I saw their demo at SEMA and asked a ton of questions. There were two different products available as lubes when doing their demonstration. One was a lube and wax combo with the other being a lube only. As mentioned previously in this thread it appears this system is basically a foam backed rubber pad with tiny nubs that actually sand off the above surface contaminants. The rep actually took me out to the Hilton parking lot and by hand with no machine used it on a pick-up truck being loaded by another vendor. The results on the filthy sap covered finish wasn't bad with no apparent marring. He was using the lube/wax combo sort of like a one step deal.This product may have been actually filling the defects to obtain this finish. After going back inside he demoed the lube with no wax on a black test panel. Some marring was present as you might see when using a aggressive clay. I can see the advantage of this system on production type work but with the OCD in most of us we might not find a space for this in our arsenal.Being a sucker for the flavor of the month club I will most likely give it a hands on trial. :cool:
