Wrong political season for another military involvement. Elections are nearing, and in an extremely rare move, Bush admitted to the fact that the Iraq situation just isn't going well. Something that many of us have recognized for a while now. Sen. McCain has called for more troops, a move suggested from the very beginning by some of the more astute (in hindsight for sure) commanders. Remember the "shock and awe" that was going to make this a cakewalk. A "boots on the ground" effort in Korea proved terribly costly for us in the past. Payerfully, our already over extended military is not placed in another theatre unless actions absolutely and without question demand it.

As an aside, I question the reasoning that brings anyone to the conclusion that China exerts any real control, or even has to desire to do so, over Mr. Kim.

"for those who defend what we belive in" Calgary Detail

For what are the men and women of the U.S. military defending? They are performing a job. Our freedoms that are granted here in our Country the United States, were/and are not in jeopardy overseas. They are technically more in jeopardy now by the Bush Administration, than overseas. So to say that that military action is "protecting our freedom and way of life" I cant agree. Some will say "when we were attacked our way of life was endanger." Since WWII the United States has attacked and invaded more countries than any other. The way of life in other countries may not be as free or civil as ours, but it is not our job to change all countries governments into pro-western, pro-democratic regimes.
Now please, dont get me wrong, I am humbled by all troops who put their lives on the line day in and day out. But what the line is I am confused. I wish that their deaths were for a cause better than a botched invasion of Iraq and Afganistan where the reasons changed from (in order of appearence)
1. Saddam WMD
2. Taking a "Bad man with rape rooms out of power"
3. Liberating the people of Iraq, and rebuilding the country with a secular deligated Parlimant.
4. Shi*, we have to do something, there has been a civil war going on since the Baath Party was ressarected in the 1970's, it will surely stop when we get there.
WE are not the worlds saviors and, if the American People knew what the CIA does on a daily basis for the last 40yrs it would make all atrocities commited by foreign leaders look like slaps on the face. For your own piece of mind- Google, Cambodia, Panama (Noriega, funny he was our asset and now in jail in Miami with no charges still), pretty much all of S. America, Costa Rica, Libya (see Pan AM flight 103, Quadafi just apologized, and now we are friends because a large oil cache was found in his country, with which American oil prospectors were granted access to investingate), the list could go on for pages.

The last thing, we have more nukes than any other country in the world, and the only to use them. Why do we determine who can have them?, because the country does not have the same opinions as the the United States?, or we are told threates to use them? If anything the United States Foreign Policy is what can do the most damage to the world. I want every country to get along, if I hung out with a group consisting of Iranians, N. Koreans, Iraqi's etc.. we would probably want to laugh chase females and smoke and drink. I hate that the lives of so many rest on the shoulders of so few. The wishes of Peace transcend throughout cultures, (less the radicals who are in every country not just the middle east, I am sure you have heard from someone "we should just nuke the M. East." I wish to obtain from my writing is to encourage a fox news watching populous to be more open minded and be willing to change. I am, and value all opinions and take into account a different viewpoint. I do not attack, nor condemn the thoughts of others, just curiously question. I as many want, is there to be peace. Raise children and DETAIL!!

Andrew,

P.S. the poll is missing a crucial choice, "Who thinks that N. Korea is not a threat, and the United States nor the Puppet UN do not determine who has the capacity to make nuclear weapons."

The fear is the nucular development, and who it will be sold too. Not that N. Korea is planning an attack on the US directly but rather indirectly, by the sale of one of these weapons.

There are enough radicals out there, that would love to get there hands on a weapon of that type. Think of the damage that was done in Oklahoma with a van, of conventional explosives. Now picture in that same van a "small" nuclear weapon in the heart of a major city (New York, LA, Chicago, Rome, Paris, London ....) or something loaded into a cargo ship pulling into a major seaport anywhere in the world, what type of damage would be done.

If you noticed, I didn't just pick out US cities, because many cities outside the US have been a targeted by people with an agenda.

So it is in everybodys best interest to monitor who is developing this type of weapon and to safeguard what is currently out there, to make sure that it doesn't get into the wrong hands.

Jay, I agree that the fear is the sale of the weapon, does that warrant war on the country providing it. If one would take into account the United States, China, and Russia are the 3 most prolific arms traffickers in the world. We have sold the information to Great Britan. To say "wrong hand" we may have the wrong hands using it to bully others who dont have them.

The problem I feel that is most important is why so many want to destroy us. The reason is not clear, may be our endless intervention in conflicts which we have no business, the endless pursuit of pushing our best needs onto other countries who have no decision but to give in. To say that these extremeists (usually Islamic Fundalmentalists) hate our way of life is not true for the most part. Islam is a very caring, peaceful denomination and the hatred or Jihad that is common refered to is a "war on Islam or the institutions that uphold the system of teaching." So in a sense it can be a holy war, for the region in which there is the most US involvement is the middle east.

Exactly "J"...

That questions the invasion of Iraq...and shows why there was no support from the International community to participate. There is more to lose from a madman selling a nuke than if the Baaths and Shiites are squabbling over the fishing rights of the Euphrates.

AZ Ferarri has the right mindset...we as detail freaks could wage war against the grime-mobile owners...you must clean and polish! There is no other way! Which is similar to our governments International Policy.

What bothers me is when politicians say "our nation is at War". Did Congress declare War? I must have missed that?

There is a cool video on the internet called "loose change" that puts a interesting twist on 9-11-01. Its basically a skeptics look at the day and events prior and after...definately worth watching. We can start a thread on that topic alone.

A definate shot out to all the military servicemen and women! They are heroes!

Rock on DC!
