My Zaino review

Yeah, that 'van' will run high 8's to 60 and do the 1/4 in the low 16's. It's the fastest mini-van on the planet and just got faster in '05!

Liz drove her client's last nite and she was wondering if it was forcely inducted :D ...She said it had some serious power for a soccer mom mobile :)

No but I used it on silver paint. Most of the comments are when Zaino is used on darker paint. I would say the appearance is like adding another layer of clearcoat that still looks wet. I think maybe 'wet glass' describes the look better than 'plasticky'.

I use the following comparison when talking about Zaino vs other products: Glass vs Gloss.

Motor Trend tested one and got a 0-60 time of 7.8 and a 15.8 @ 87 1/4 mile out of one...and the '05s have 15 hp more!

Personally, I wouldn't want a minivan but if all other forms of transportation were to suddenly disappear, I'd be driving an Odyssey.

Great review, keep us posted as time goes on. Also you might shave a tenth off the quarter time with Zaino lol.

Getting back to that "plasticity" thing. My first few encounters with Zaino gave me that look. I consider my color dark. A couple of months ago, I did a Pinnacle PCL/AIO/Z5 combo on my car and the AIO really gave it the wettness and depth, I've never seen before. It looked a lot better than previous sessions where I did PPCL and 3 or 4 layers of Z2 or Z5.

Just yesterday, I did a QEW, some Z6 and a quick layer of Z2 (no ZFX) on the hood. Let it sit for about 15 minutes while I cleaned up a little and wiped off with no probs. It gave it a little more "umph".

oh, btw: nice writeup Scott :xyxthumbs

This is just a stupid question, but has anybody tried the wowo method on removel of Z5 Z2. It worked for Bill North on Klasse SG, maybe it will work on Zaino. Just a though.

There are no stupid questions, just stupid answers. :p

I tried it a while back and I got some phenomenal smearing. :D I ended up waiting until it dried and then buffed it out.

There is no reason for WOWO with Zaino. Zaino isn't difficult to remove.

Agreed. Once it hazes it wipes off with ease. In fact, I suspect the longer you wait, the easier it wipes off.

I'm glad you were happy with Zaino. I, for one, have never been disappointed with it. Durability is the best I've seen, and it is so easy to apply/remove.

The looks aren't for everyone, and that's what makes detailing such a fun hobby. Great job, Scott!

Agreed. Honestly, on my black 626, I haven't been truly happy with any sealant other the EX w/carnauba. Not that Wolfgang, NXT, UPP or Glanz Wax looked bad on my car, they all looked really good but just didn't have that deep liquid look I get with carnauba based products.

If I had a silver or pearl colored car, I'd be using sealants probably exclusively.

But wait until you see my car with a fine carnauba like P21S. ;)

I've seen my Mom's silver Lexus with S100 because I applied it. ;)

I really like the look but I'd still use a sealant as a base. :)

I was under the impression that AIO is a cleaner wax/sealant that leaves a protective layer on the finish. If Zaino is suppose to to be applied to a clean surface, why is everyone using AIO as prep for Zaino? Wouldn't a dedicated paint cleaner or a polish such as Merenza or Poorboys that leaves no oils/fillers behind be a better prep for Zaino so it bonds better to the paint which in turn would be more durable?

AIO is also oil free so Zaino has no problems bonding to it. This has been discussed on numerous occassions and several dedicated Zaino users swear by using AIO as a base.

I believe Sal's actual recommendation is to Z7 wash after AIO'ing. the AIO does have some properties that can/will inhibit maximum bonding. With that said, I did not do this, and so far my z looks good. I may try it next time though to see if any differences exist.

Yes, in a recent email, Sal recommended washing the car with Z7 after using AIO, but I'm sure the Zaino will still have great durability.

There have been plenty of different people who have had great success using AIO and Zaino.
