My Zaino Review

Thanks for taking the time to do such a good write-up and post such good pix, Greg. And I'm glad to know you liked the Zaino results; so do I. :up I love your description that it's "like adding another layer of clearcoat."

About the streaking: Everything I've read about Zaino (from their site and other people's recommendations) says it's really designed to be an integrated system. IIRC, the directions say to use the Z6 QD before applying Z2 or Z5, and again after Z2/Z5. My experience has been that the QD application (a) helps to remove any excess product and (b) enhances the glorious Zaino glow. So -- by skipping that step -- you really may be making your life more difficult and selling the product short. (BTW, you mentioned the scent of Z5; just wait 'til you get a whiff of Z6 -- it's yummalicious! :D )

BTW, the only time I got streaking with Zaino was after I applied Z2 and Z6, and I got horrible oily-looking streaks. After consulting with my Z rep, I discovered that I had used too much Z6. He advised me to use it "as if it were liquid gold." Once I took his message to heart, I didn't have a problem. .... But since it sounds like you didn't have any Z6, I don't guess that could be a factor in the streaking you experienced.

Again, thanks for doing such a detailed write-up. :bigups

3M Finishing Glaze -- where does it fit in the process .. can it be after IP/FP and before AIO/SG ( or Z5 ZFX)? Or does it contain oils/fillers?

The 3M Machine Glaze (silicone and filler free) fits into my regimen after IP and FP. I sometimes just go directly from IP to 3M MG and not do the FP step, especially when using a rotary.

Used in on a black Aurora the other day.

Um, you'd better show pictures... :D

Greg, great review. I look forward to hearing your ongoing opinions of it. And those shots are great!

And :xyxthumbs to Sonnydaze! He's the one who hooked me up with some Blackfire to try!

What did your final verdict end up being on the Zaino? Do you still like the Blackfire better?

As long as you put it on thin, you still may run into the streaking problem.

Resolution: Mix 1/2 cap of Z7 wash with 12oz of water (distilled is fine so it will not leave water spots) in a spray bottle.

Shake, spray, wipe streak away!

DO NOT use Z6 to remove streaks! All you'll end up doing is spreading your Z5/Z2 coat around and it will not bond well.

Prior to ussing Z6, make SURE it's cured! As Lynn said... Treat like liquid gold...nice and light..and do you really have to spray it?

Sure Zaino's work, but the results are quite nice.

Now with NXT out as well as other products, it's time to try once weather is warm.

I've substituted Clearkote QS for Z6 when I JUST have to clean off the Lexus. Works VERY well and is cheaper!

Nice shots of the Bimmer! VERY NICE WORK!! :xyxthumbs

Regards,

Deanski

Yeah, Blackfire is still my product of choice. Zaino didn't shed water as well, and I never really liked the down-the-hood look of it from the driver's seat. The paint barely looked red. It wasn't deep or glossy, just shiny.

Great review and pics!:xyxthumbs

I agree, your streaking is probably because you didn't let the first layer cure long enough. I haven't had much luck with Z in the sun, either. I find it makes it a lot harder to remove.

Great pics, though. When I get the nerve(read: detailing confidence;) ), I'll get a black car...
