My Vintage Experience...

Just got back from taking the kid to see Shrek III. It's not as good as the first one, although it's still worth seeing...

Anyway, I'm taking another detailing break. Just finished an alcohol wipedown now that all the polishing is done, and getting ready to start the HD-Cleanse process. I'll update this thread with pictures after everything is done, and the first layer of Vintage is done.

Guys, I'm really feeling bad about something... I've had over 20 requests for samples of the Vintage so far. You all have no idea how much I'd love to take all 22 ounces out of the jar and sample it all out to my fellow autopians. Problem is, I think Zymol would most likely freak out if I was asking for a refill one day after I received the product. It just doesn't seem fair to give samples out to some people, and not to others, so...

I will not be trading/selling/giving out any samples of the Vintage, and I am truly sorry.

I really feel like a tool for just giving out a blanket "no", but I really see no way of doing anything else. I do not want to jeopardize the 1,800 bucks i have spent on this, and I don't want to say yes to some and no to others. :( Believe me, if I had my way, we'd all be using Royale to wax our kitchen floors. I'm really not trying to be selfish. :( :(

Anyway, I gotta get back to work... That car isn't going to detail itself (darnit).

Sorry for not posting any pics yet in the first post... the first post was more of an attempt to prevent my pm box from filling up with more requests for samples than anything else.

Time for another break. As most of you know, applying any of the Estate Glazes is supposed to be a two step process: cleaning/prepping the paint with HD-Cleanse, then applying the "glaze" (what everyone except Zymol would consider a "wax"). HD-Cleanse looks like your typical glaze (think RMG or Menzerna's Final Touch), and it smells like chocolate cake. OMG, I can't tell you guys how much I HATE the HD-Cleanse. Yeah, it makes your paint look just as good as any other good glaze like the previously mentioned products, but it requires about (and I'm not kidding around here) ten times the labor. The diretions say to apply liberally, wait 20 seconds, and remove with a terry cloth towel. When they say twenty seconds, they mean twentyfreakingseconds. You wipe at 19 seconds, and the stuff smears like crazy. Youu wait 21 seconds, and you'll need a wool pad and compound to remove the stuff. All in all, I am VERY unimpressed with the HD-Cleanse. I'd much rather use MFTG and save the workout for the gym. No matter how long you wait, removing the stuff is gonna give you a total upper body workout. I really hope the Vintage application and removal goes better than this. I'm going to go put a microfiber bonnet on the PC and go over the car one more time just to make sure I got that glaze from hell off of my car before I start applying the Vintage.

The saga continues...

Can't wait to see the pictures and I think you are completely in the right. I'm glad you aren't doing any trading with the Vintage it could become a sticky situation.

Well, it's done, and I'm beat. Completely exhausted. 9.5 hours of working on the car today, and I haven't even gotten the wheels or interior done.

How does it look? As good as you'd probably expect.. I don't think it's possible for my paint to look any better.

The wax application/removal process was so much easier than that HD-Cleanse crap. The wax feels a bit grainy in your hands at first, then it just melts into this greasey feeling stuff. Very smooth and easy to rub into the paint. Equally smooth to remove.

I'm hoping the durability/cleanability stands up to it's price tag.

Pics as soon as the sun comes up.

I think you shouldn't feel bad about saying no to samples. It is a product you paid $1800 bucks for and if I were in your shoes, I'd do the same thing. I wouldn't want to jeopardize such a large purchase, especially when there are probably Zymol-affiliated trolls that surf this public forum.

Personally I would be pissed if people where filling up my PM box asking for me for a handouts. It is of course different for the people I have regular contact with on the forum, but if it was random people, thats the same as pan handling...

i found that hd goes on better with a moist soft pad. i hate to admit it but the best way for me was to apply with a machine at slow speed to make sure it was thin. it came off much easier that way. one section at a time.

vintage is fun to apply and looked great on a recent black cayman i did.

i found that warming only in my palms, not fingers, allowed me to apply the wax evenly and with one hand. hope that makes sense.

For $1800 my answer would be no, I don't care who was asking!!!!! It takes a lot of nerve to ask for a sample of something like that.

Thanks for the support, guys. :)

pt91, thanks for the tips on HD-Cleanse application. Next time I use the stuff, I'll try your method.

The suns up! Time to go take some pics...

I find it odd that so many people asked for samples. I do not think you should feel bad about not sending them out. I'm looking forward to your pictures. :)

Well...:work: We're all waiting! :D

LoL, sorry guys : )

Ya know how, before you go to bed, you think "Excellent! the car is DONE!" Then you go out to your garage the next morning, only to find about 1,000 other things you need to do? That never happens to me.

So after applying Vintage to the windows and the trim (good tip, Accumulator), and the back end, I forced myself to put away the rags long enough for a few quick snaps. In the following photos, please note that I have not done anything to the front clip yet, as I really need to do some hand correction work on it before I wax it. Also, the inside of the windows are very dirty, causing the windows to not sparkle like they should. I also haven't even started working on the wheels yet (something I'm going to need a bunch of help with from you guys...the wheels are swirled from a detailing shop's hack job, and I have no idea where to start with them). Also, there is still just a bit of hologramming visible on the hood sun shots. : /

I wanted to take some more pics, but as soon as I pulled my car into the alley, the neighbor opened his garage and needed to get his car out. I hate shared alleys. More pics to come, I hope.

Edit: Bleh, my pictures stink. The car looks much better in person. My camera can't even decide what color my car is. Hopefully Greg Nichols (forum member here) will be able to attest to that as he's coming by the house this afternoon.

To be fair, most of the requests for samples weren't just requests for handouts. Most were people looking to pay or trade. Only a few were, "Hey man, can you hook a brother up?" requests.

Wow looks VERY nice :) How about a sample? I kid, I kid :) Now, comes the question, do you think the price tag is justified? Im sure it's a great wax, but how would you compare it to "lesser waxes" like Pinnacle Souveran (funny im calling Souveran a "lesser wax"). IE is there a distiguishable difference between the two?

Either way, it's neat to see someone actually drop the coin and buy some of this stuff. What's next, the Royale? ;)

Btw thanks again for helping me out! Cant' wait to try my new toy.
