My UDM bites the dust

Well the UDM Started doing funky things. Surges in speed to almost no speed and a burning smell. Called and talked to David. He sent a new one out right a way. Good customer service. I was a little suprised when he said Ver.2 would not be out till March 2008. With the switch being a safety issue, I would have thought they would have upgraded the UDM right away. He also said very few have been returned for problems. All in All things are OK. This makes the second one I had to send back. This one has lasted since 7/27/07.......Life goes on. Glad I have a backup.

Same thing happened to me and some others that I know about. Carbon Blue put a vid up showing what his was doing. This was your second one to return, HMMMM.

Keep up the great customer service, because I will remain a customer based off of that alone impressed. The features of the UDM are also great but the longevity of the UDM hardware, however, is not really impressing me right now. I hope that these issues are addressed and fixed in Ver. 2.

I just got my second one, but I do not think that I will have enough time to break it in before it starts getting real cold.

Seems like there is habitual problems with these units. One reason I never buy certain products in there 1st year of production. You roll the dice that bugs will have to be worked out.

Well this is the 2nd UDM that has went down. A member on AG just had one go out. Here how his turned out ouch

Edit:User was using the Edge system.

David said mine was the "eleventh" unit retuned for problems. Well I have two of those. Do a search for me MDRX8 and you can read where I was P- 'd about not getting anyone to respond to me. 11????

Man, these things are dropping like flies everywhere! Sorry to hear about all the problems you folks are having. Glad I have my rotaries and PC.

I guess "Ultimate" is not the correct adjective to describe them!!

Maybe replacements should be sent out "before" they fail and leave a detailer stranded ... for now it forces me to keep my PC as a backup.

Mine was acting up before my season ended .. speed fluctuations . ****** part is its not easy to exchange them from up here in CanaDUH.

Sheez with all these burning up he may have to recall them and give us the V2 UDM because if he keeps giving us new ones every time we turn around, he cant be making much money?

I just recieved mine and have not used it yet. seems like a great unit

I really like mine when it's working. I like it better than my PC. The motor just does not sound very good when running. Has a bit more vibration than PC. Wonder where the motor is made? But from these post seems more people are have motor problems. If you had motor problems post here. Lets see. +2 for the 2 I have sent back.

+1 for me, Just got my 2nd one and did not try out yet.

That Flex looks real nice right about now. I believe it is under $250.00 now.

Seeing I'm down for the winter I might hold off on my warranty claim till after March in hoping I get a Version 2 as a replacement.

What scares me is that mine is starting to exhibit those noises as well and I am basically done buffing until April 2008 so I hope if it goes fry itself they take into account winter months us Northerns cant detail in.

I would at least email them so you can have a claim ticket out there stating its starting to act wierd at this time

This could be a bank buster if it's a built in defect. I'd hate to think of the money riding on this product.

:bolt

mine 2. SMOKED THE BRUSH .....Only on 1 side....Motor got louder and started to slow down then started to shut off... Looks like the armatuer eating the brushes for lunch... mfg 5/1/07.... i wasnt even half way done on my 4 car with this unit. Customer service seems to be good. New unit on the way. We will see after that!

I get the feeling we won't ever see a UDM Model 2000. My hunch is that it will be the Meguiar G110A. But let's say if the Model 2000 does get released, if I was having a problem with my unit, I would not wait to get the new model as there are no guarantees you will be getting an upgraded model, especially if he's going to be selling 2 versions of the UDM. You would have waited for nothing.

I was tempted to buy a UDM when they came out, but me being me, I like to try before I buy.

I finally got to use my buddies UDM a couple weeks ago, to compare to the PC to see if I like it.

It vibrated so bad, my hands went numb after doing 1 panel. He was used to it, as he hasn't used a PC, so he thought it was normal. He found out it was not normal, so it is going back where it came from and he is getting a Flex...

I would get a flex but its too big. I just use the UDM to apply sealants now as I know its not worth it for defect removal.

I have a feeling that the ones that were made in the 5/1 batch were very much rushed to get them out the door for profits sake.

And 11 returned cant be right as I have returned one MDX has had issues with two. So there are only 8 other people out there that had issues when I have read on DC, Detailers Club and AG Forums that others have return them as well.
