Mini Permanon update:

I chose Permanon to top OptiCoat because I love how it improves the beading and really does make the car super easy to clean - especially the wheels. (OptiCoat beads OK but nothing the same. It does add the deep protection I like on my car, though.) I applied Permanon Platinum to all exterior surfaces except the top.

I looked at yesterday's forecast before I left for work and saw there was a 10% of rain. In Central Texas, that really means "it ain't gonna' rain." Well, surprise, surprise - we drew that proverbial inside straight and got a short shower on my work commute. Figures. The beading was awesome (as I was expecting) but watching the beads roll up the windshield at 30 mph was impressive.

My plan it to refresh the Permanon monthly (or so) with a 5% solution.

Any idea how long Permanon lasts on a clean surface? I watched a video on their website where a guy says it either has to be abraded off or removed with something pH12+. Other than that, he said its fairly permanent ???

I'm doing some comparisons with OptiCoat and the beading seems about the same. I don't see a major improvement with Permanon.

On Jason (MugelloM)'s wheels (http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums...ne-detailing/42759-answer-bmw-brake-dust.html), Permanon started to weaken at about 8 weeks and was pretty much gone in 10. That is what is prompting my monthly schedule. I am currently 2 weeks in. With the mini paint gun, it only takes a few minutes to apply so I do not mind.

Normal washing counts as "abrading". ;) I think gloss enhancing shampoos can hide the super-beading affect also. I just used my pressure washer and water on this week's wash. Dried with the MetroVac for a nearly touchless (in the good way) wash.

While the 8 weeks doesn't sound to long by comparison to some, it would be great on my cars because of the OptiCoat base. Most sealants don't last long on it. But I am expecting the full (normal) durability because of the way Permanon adheres to paint (electrostatically rather than mechanically).

IME - OptiCoat beads good but not nearly as well (nor is as slick) as Permanon. Permanon also seems to give the paint a very appealing glow that folks comment on.

That's kind of a bummer. They are calling this stuff "Permanon" (like "permanent") and the guy in the video says it needs to be abraded off or removed with something pH 12+. He even says if a panel is re-painted, you will need to re-apply. This led me to believe the stuff lasted at least a year (on clean paint) like you average silica coating.

It's still a great product, albeit a bit costly.

May be costly, but I wonder if you balanced the "work time" v. the product cost

Don't know but it's worth a thought

Yeah, they wouldn't sell it by the liter (that gets diluted to 5-10%) if it did last that long. You wouldn't read about the raves of Carpro Hydro2 which applies similarly but lasts 3-6 months either.

A couple of years ago, they had a group buy on L2D for Permanon and the limited durability was the biggest "complaint".

Ron is right: it is so easy to apply and effective that the "limited durability" isn't too much of a concern. And, for folks like me, it will likely have comparatively excellent durability.

Thanks Mike!!

If I commmented on everything I wanted to, then this would be my job for the rest of the day. Great job on the car, the tease, the wheel selection, the house, the typing, the soon-to-be Audi... and so on and so on and so on...:yourrock

I was checking on Permanon's USA website, and they are saying you can use as low as 2% for what they call a "touch up". I'm wondering if that would work once the surface has been treated with 5%?

Also, anyone know the difference between the various Permanon products PBMG sell (Diamond, Platinum, Car Supershine)? They all seem to read almost the same.

Good find. Hadn't seen that before and will definitely stretch out and make Permanon more cost effective.

I would also like to know the difference between Platinum and Diamond. Todd? Stig?

The Diamond 2-in-1 has cleaner in it. More self prepping and is their recommended maintenance product.

Washed and topped off the Permanon with a 2% solution.
