Paul,

One of the prettiest pictures I've seen. It looks really peaceful.

Nothing is more relaxing for me than to just take the kayak out at sunrise and catch bluegills. I could do that all day, any day, and sometimes I do. :D

We call that perch jerkin' round these parts

Bluegill and redears used to be pretty abundant around here. We used to take a basketfull of gray crickets out for a fine day of fishing. Are you fly fishing out of your boat.

Tell us a bit about the boat. Have you got any whitewater around? I'm not much of a kayaker, used to shoot the rapids in a 2-man canoe from time to time though.

No I don't fly fish out of the kayak. I suppose I could, and it would be a great time, but I'd need a fly rod first. :) I've only fly-fished once, in the Madison River in Yellowstone Nat'l Park.

The kayak is an Old Town Otter, with more money spent on accessories than the boat itself! Shock cord rigging for front and back, foot rest pedals inside, seat padding, transport kit, nice paddle, spray skirt...and a little detailing here and there. :o

I have a custom ruler that I made with a permanent marker on the side too. It measures to 40", and so far the biggest fish I've caught from the kayak was 38" so it's still good. I'm not sure I'd want to catch anything above 40" from a kayak!

I might get a rod holder and paddle holder this season. Or devise my own contraption. :)

There is whitewater around here, yes. I took the kayak down the Wolf River last summer, which was my first time going through rapids of any sort with the kayak. I'd been rafting many times through fast water though. The Wolf River has the longest continous stretch of whitewater in the state. We went down it when the river was low...from what I saw, I can't imagine what it would be like if the river was a foot higher. Intense for sure! I plan to get into whitewater kayaking in the future. I tried paddling around in my friend's whitewater kayak, but that takes some getting used to. Those boats are so incredibly maneuverable that I nearly tipped myself over when I hit a little current. I've got a lot of experience kayaking too.

Well I didn't win anything...not even third place. I was competing against about 20 entries in my category, most of which were 8x10 pictures. I took mine with a 2MP camera, so I printed it as a 3.5x5 on some Kodak photo paper, and it turned out quite nice at that size. Apparently it wasn't nice enough. :( Ah well...

Yeah I've got a few spots around here for pictures of hawks and bald eagles. I'm glad I've got a 5.0MP camera now.

make sure you post some of the cool pics you get. we have a few places in my area where you can get a peek at some bald eagles. they are huge when you see them in person. they also are neat to watch as they are swooping in on some prey.

Yeah it's pretty neat when you get to watch a bald eagle soar right above you in the kayak. I'd love to see one grab a fish in front of me.

Wow that must be cool to be almost water level when the bald Eagle make is move. they are a sight to see for sure. I am happy that they have made a nice comeback in our area. I would love to see an action shot if you ever have the oppurtunity to get one. thanks again for you pics, they are very peaceful . :goodjob
