My Perfect Tire Cleaner

Been using apc (d101) for about two years now. Really nice stuff. Works well on wheels that aren't overly trashed and cleans tires and wells good. Economical too.

Recently though I got apc+ and find it cleaned my tires a lot better and foamed just enough with a foaming sprayer. Definitely going to pick up a gallon of the + once my regular apc is gone.

Interesting, that is the exact opposite of what I'm doing. I don't find D103 to be all that great on tires at all.

Thanks for the input :)

I have been using D101 as my "go to" APC. I have bottles diluted at 4:1 and 10:1. I find that the 4:1 ratio is more than enough to effectively clean the tires. I do like the idea of the foaming spray head and might give that try.

Dear Pat

Aren't you a fan of P21's tire cleaner? I bought a bottle about a year ago based on someone's recommendation and haven't used it yet.

I just bought a gallon of Meguiar's APC Plus. Now I have to find out its number to know if I got the right thing or not. I clean tires that are already kind of clean, but before I put on any dressing, I want to get the tires as clean as possible. (Mike Phillips says, "surgically clean.")

Mr Gloss, I don't understand how Amazing Roll Off hasn't worked for you. It's never failed me. I prefer to use it at full strength, but I just spray it on heavily from a Kwazar bottle (not as a foam), wait several minutes, spray a little more only if the product dried, and brush with a Mother's tire brush. I'm an idiot and if it'll work for me, I'm pretty sure it'll work for you. When it comes to detailing the proper way, I'm Forrest Gump.

The one thing this thread points out is what seems to work for some does not work for others!

Jaddie,

When cleaning tires and wheel wells, ARO doesn't work for me, at least not as advertised. I'm not alone. There are a few who will tell you the same thing.

I'll stick to Tuff Shine cleaner and APC+. Whenever I use APC+, I mix the solution on day of use, and mix just enough to treat 8 tires. It works great for me.

I use the Meg's APC plus on my tires and it works perfect. Im really not too comfortable using them on the rims though. Am I wrong or are you not suppose to use a chemical based APC on rims as it may mess up your brake calipers and pads? Maybe I heard wrong...

Been using only an APC on my wheels and tires for a good six months... I don't think there are any issues.

I've used PB apc for years, no problem.

Only thing I can tell you for sure, is don't use simple green on aluminum, cuz it can pit it

That's nice to know, will save me a lot of money in the long run. Those foaming sprayer, I need to get some of those bad boys for sure.

Dear Roshan & Friends

An almost new player has entered the fold in the fight for best tire cleaner.

The product may not be new, but it changes the economics just a little. Diluted 1:1 it costs US$30 per gallon (US$25.50 if purchased at 15% off).

But if D101 cleans about as well, it's still no contest.

By the way, now The Amazing Spider-Man's pecker has found its way onto the detailing market in the form of a wheel brush. If you order this new wheel brush, make sure you get to it before your wife does.

Didn't know AG had the concentrated version of Tuf Shine. Wonder when ACC will have it available.

Great video. I wonder if that foam is due to the product or the trigger? I think that is a foaming trigger sprayer correct? In any case great video. Your car always looks so clean in your videos. Keep up the good work Doc

Whenever someone says perfect anything, I cringe. There is no such thing as a perfect detailing product.

However, this video shows a tire cleaner that is perfect for me. It is both cheap and very very effective.

Video and details in link, hope you enjoy!

It is due to both. The foaming sprayer will make just about anything foam, but unless something is of a foaming nature, it will soon stop being foamy and just stay runny.

D101 + Adam's foaming sprayer = win in my book :bigups

That seems like 3 applications to get clean tires cleaner? That would mean 3 times the cost of product? Why not use something that works on really dirty tire (tuf shine) and be done with it? Jus t saying.

Well the dramatic turnaround video will have to wait. There was 1 tire on my gfs car that was brown as hell. It was dirty and nasty and PERFECT!

Naturally, guess what happened.

As I was about to end the recording, I hit the camera it fell and I lost the video.

If anyone knows how to convert a temp video file to a normal video file, I would love to know how. About 45 minutes of searching led to nothing.

:/
What kinda camera?
VirtualDub maybe, if it's an AVI? (YOU MAY NEED TO CHANGE THE EXTENSION)

3 year old thread or not, I'll add my thoughts in. Most APCs, when diluted AND SCRUBBED properly will do a decent job of cleaning the tires, though most take more than one scrubbing/rinsing. My favorite is Meguiar's Hot Shine All-Wheel-Cleaner or Megs All-Wheel Cleaner (probably the same thing, just with a different label). When I spray it on, I can immediately see the brown running off the tire, and when I start scrubbing, the suds immediately turn black. Once rinsed (IMO) the tire look almost good enough to leave undressed (almost).
